Went to town this morning to get some fresh duco to fletch some arrows. struck out. :-[
And I cannot find the spool of fletching tape I had. :'(
Anybody every use the GEL Supperglue for fletching? :-\
-
Super glue is all I use anymore. It is a lot faster so you don't have to wait 30 minutes to release the clamps.
-
Cool, thanks Justin. I will give it a go tomorrow. I have to chop feathers tonight and finish cresting first.
-
I get my Duco at Ace hardware or Family Dollar.
-
I've heard fro else where that folks are find it harder and harder to find Duco. I don't know why, It is a great glue.
-
I checked walmart, home depot, menards. nothing. I bought some little tubes of gel, I am going to try that tomorrow.

Gorilla glue Super glue is all I use anymore

Yeah, must be a shortage of the stuff, I was looking for it myself and none to be found anywhere. I ended up buying some titebond (instant bond) and it seems to work ok. First I had seen the stuff, although hadn't really been looking for any alternatives until I was forced to with the shortage of Duco.

wally world here has a generic all purpose adhesive, it's just like duco and a buck a tube, Bub

I had the same problem. I went to the supermarket, Walgreen's, Wallyworld, and finally a dollar store, but no Duco, I ended up getting a tube of similar stuff from Wally world, and dollar store. So I have two tubes, it works like Ducco. I was using super glue, and it ran, and then tried the gel, it was better, but still made a mess, so I had to strip the arrow, a couple of times, refinish the arrow, and cut new fletching, and this time used the dollar store stuff, and it worked great. I was making two arrows for a Friend of mine who's boss had prostate cancer, so I made two arrows, this one with triple fletch, and one with Mullet's help a Cherokee two fletch. Eddie gave me a couple of artifacts, he had found, and an arrowhead, he had found in one of the rivers here, and an arrowhead he had made out of Washington jasper or something like that. Same stuff Ishi used. 8) Anywho, Ducco is just plain hard to find! :o I was trying to find a Hobby store, but the one here is gone. :( But anywho, the Dollar store stuff, and Wallyworld stuff works just as well. ;)

i use just normal superglue and it works great for me.

I'll have to stop and see if the duco is still @ the store I buy it. I like the Gorilla super glue too. Some super glues doesn't hold up to the cold all that well. Looks like if they still have duco in the store I buy it I'll have to get a few. ;) dpgratz

i was buying it at a autoparts store.they would only get in two tubes at a time.i think the store was o'reillys.i used to make allot of arrows, maybe i did cause the shortage.sorry guys,Steve

Call the 1-800 number on the Duco tube and ask them "WA SUP! ;)

I just looked and it all seems to be on Amazon. I guess retail stores just don't care anymore.
-
Walmart has quit carrying Duco. I heard from a possibly reliable source that Duco's manufacturer quit selling to Walmart because they used it as a loss leader, to the detriment of other retailers.
As for clamping time, I take the clamp off after maybe 5 minutes. Just open the clamp and tip it sideways so any glue sticking to it will break the bond without stressing the feather joint.
I find Walmart's substitute glue to be too thin, way slower to dry and smells like cheap perfume.
I'll find Duco if I have to buy it from Amazon as mentioned above.

Guys
Check fleabay......saw 6 tubes for $13.99. Seems like a good deal.
-
I bought 3 tubes on Sunday @ Bear Hardware in Nashville, Indiana. $1.70 a tube. They had about 20 packs on the hook. >:D You all worried me for a minute. And GO! DUCO! if the story about walmart is true. ;D dpgratz

Dollar Store has it for $1.25 a tube.

ry True Value hardware stores. Jawge

I checked my local $ store. No go. :(

I've used the thick gel CA glue to fletch arrows, with good success. It really stinks bad, so make sure your work area is well ventilted, and don't get any on your fingers!!

I finally found Duco at the Family Dollar store. They had seven tubes. Now they don't! But, I'm sure they will restock.

3 Rivers Archery seems to always have it. I usually buy a tube with every order just so I never run out.
