While out tree hunting today,I came upon a nice gobbler feeding in the brush, closest I came was about 15 yards! The irony was I had a future bow in my hands!! 25 years of hunting and I never stalked up on ol'tom,lol...been 30 yards away and blinked and sent them running tho...
Just had to share,Ron

That's pretty cool Ron, but I think you just proved one of the hard and fast rules of hunting. The surest 2 ways to get close to a game animal are:
- Enter their habitat out of season
- Enter their habitat without a weapon
There are sub rules to these, but you get the idea. I've had turkeys stay 20 yards in front of me all the way to my deer stand in Oct before fall turkey season opened. I've had them come out under my tree stand and lay down to take a mid-day snooze. As I recall that day they spotted a deer headed my way and ran it off.
Still a cool thing to get close when you don't expect to.

Yep, don't know how many critters have walked up on me when I was going to the bathroom. :-[ ;)

...pants around your ankles, handfull of wipe of choice, weapon out of reach

Buck snort...bad breath buck snort!

Just make sure your white tail does not get mounted. >:D >:D

I learned at a young age to keep the gun in reach during bathroom breaks. Got a nice rooster pheasant once answering the call when I was supposed to be blocking at the end of a corn field. Not sure which of us was more surprised when he rounded the end of the corn rows flying about 3' off the ground. One of my more memorable hunts.

Animals are smart about some of this stuff. funny how they realize when humans are most dangerous at times.
yall donno how many times ive been tempted to jump out of a vehicle knife in hand just because there so close. they get going fast enough though. makes me think possums are natures retardeds the way they like to run the wrong way.

LOL, sorry Pappy, I guess I was in the thick of this hijack. :-[ Thinking about how deer seem to know when you're harmless...I was on our entryway roof up in Nebraska right after bow season opened a few years ago. I was stapling down tar paper and in the middle of air nailing down the shingles my wife came to the window by me and told me to look at the driveway. A curious doe had walked up to within 20 yards to see what was making the ruckus. The minute our eyes met she was gone in a flash.

I have a story about that

My second and third bucks were killed in "mid whiz", one of them at about 20 feet.

Was hunting an out of state hunter and we were working some bull elk with the bugle. My hunter mentioned something about camp food and headed to a big fallen log. One old bull had been quiet and was sneaking in on us. All I could see was his horns above the brush coming right up on the log. "Oh (poop) I heard the dude say as the elk was looking over the log at him when he was unarmed and unpantsed! The whole hill side seemed to erupt with thundering elk! Still laugh at the memory!
