The Stats
Wood: Red Oak Board
Handle: None
Backing: Medium Linen
Nock to nock: 68
Max Width: 1.25’’
Draw Weight: 61 @ 28
Set: < 1''
The Story
I had a 1 ¼ inch piece of wood left from my first board bow and instead of me making a light bow out of it, I decided to try to push out at 60 pounder and see if it breaks. So far so good… I decided to put the following quotes on the back:
• “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I’ll spend the first four sharpening the axe.” – Abe Lincoln
• “I am a longbowman, I use a longbow. That’s what I do.” – Tred Barta’s comment on the suggestion of using a gun after his illness.
• “I’m so lucky to be alive.” – me ;)

looks like you got some power out of that oak!!!
60#s :)
-
:D ;D yes....even better :) your def ready for a stave :D.....nice
-
Great job on getting #61 out of a fairly narrow red oak and doing it with low set.
-
@coster500: it takes a lil power to draw it at least. now i need to get some arrows that will work with it. haha
@blackhawk: thank you master. I just might just have a stave lying around we could try... ;D
@Bernal: Thanks much, I'm glad it came together and didn't break... yet ;)

The wood has some runn offs and there is one that has me a little nervous. Hopefully the backing does it's job and it holds up. BTW after drawing several more times at 28 it took a little more set. Still < 2''.

Good job on that one, too. PA Hunter!!
-
Your tiller is spot on! Good job! Josh

@lesken, Gun Doc: thanks much guys!
I had an osage handle on this one that popped off at about 10 inches. I think it was just too thin to prevent any bending in the handle. I guess it's a cross somewhere between a D and C design now.

Your on a roll..... great job.

Very nice tiller Rob. I agree with blackhawk, you are definitely ready for a stave! Congratulations

@straight arrow: thanks man, out to the farm to do some shootin this weekend!
@JWH: you have some pretty low standards to put me in there. ;) thanks much man, it's appreciated. Hopefully I put out work worthy of that comment some day.
@MoNative: thanks man. it's all a result of the help of others.
@Keenan: thanks much! Oddly enough my first bow (before I found this site and all) was from a hickory log. Glad to get back to the beginning and to chase my first osage ring!
@Jimbob: thanks, it's my best by far. Now hopefully it doesn't break! haha
The 61#er is shooting arrows much faseter than any other bow I've done. Getting 11 inch penetration in my target. Can't wait to take it to the farm this weekend and distance test it. I only tested my first bow (26#er) that reached about 75 yards. I have a feeling the arrows will be flyin a wee bit farther this weekend. ;) Hopefully HicoryBill will be able to stop by and let some wood fly! BTW 61 is a little heavy for hunting. I'm thinking 50-55 will be more comfortable for those cold unpredictable hunting situations.
I'm excited to take one step closer to my goal of letting blood be drawn this fall! I know I can get close to the deer I just need the bow and skill to close the deal. Sometimes easier said than done...
