Title: Is this a wind check and what can be done about it?
Post by: Sidewinder on March 15, 2012, 02:43:38 pm
This is a picture one of our friend here on PA , Ksbowhunter sent me. I think it is a wind check, is that right? I have not had to try and repair one of these and thought maybe it could be wrapped around the limb with sinew but did'nt want to tell him wrong. Anyone with some ideas they have used succesfully in the past.  Thanks in advance.   Danny

Yes  that could be a wind check or shake as I call them ! I usually call cracks from internal forces such as drying checks and cracks form external forces shakes (wind or hitting badly when felled ect.)!
Most folks move on to another piece of wood when they are thru that many growth rings!
But you never know until its done !
