Post by: jturkey on March 20, 2012, 04:14:25 pm
making some simple triangular bone points 2 questions first how think do they really need to be to be effective against whitetails and or hogs
2ndly how heavy  or light can they be as well have one cut out it is 1 3/8" in cutting edge and almost a 1/4" thick feels heavier than my 140 gr magnuses but no scale to measure them on.

If I were making bone points, I'd make sure they were of legal hunting size and try to get them as close to my regular point weight as possible. IMO. You could make a simple balance beam w/ one of your mangus heads to get your bone points close. , dpgratz

yeah bow that is what i am going to do tomorrow just wanted to make sure i am within the advantages of the bone point and not to think or anything. we have no point restriction here in mississippi according to the new hand book they just put out but i am going for a little wider cut but have no clue on the thickness right now they are pretty thick right now about 1/4" or thicker is why i am asking.

Give moose antler at try a drimal works prefect. Moose artlers solid not properous in the middle like deer antler. I make them 2 3/4's LONG TO A STRONG 1/8 to 3/16's THICK close to a ZIWICKY.

I would think twice about using a bone point on a hog. They are tough enough for steel or stone points.
