Title: Doll's Bow
Post by: Del the cat on March 22, 2012, 11:09:12 am
I visited a friend yesterday and his wife showed me her dolls house. The poor Mr Doll was there in his Victorian house without a longbow!
Well I couldn't accept that, so I made the poor fellow a bow and arrow this morning.
Hard to get decent pics as it's so small.
It's Oregon Yew, you can just about make out the sapwood and heart wood, Waterbuffalo tip overlays and linnen string.
Making the arrow was right pig.
The bow is a tad fat for scale but would be rather delicate otherwise, it's still pretty stiff tho' and I had to put in some deflex with a heatgun in order to get the string on!

I hope he likes it, maybe he'll wreak havoc in the dolls house and there will be arrow holes in walls in a few days time

That's crazy.  I can't get tip overlays to look right on a regular size bow and you go and put teeny tiny ones on that thing and they look good.  >:(

Oh you tease.
I dread to think what the scale draw weight would be.... hang on...
After doing some guesswork lengthy calculations involving higher math it scales up as 300# @30" ::)
I did actually ping the little arrow out of it from a very short draw, but it's probably waaay to stiff for scale.
I had to heat bend even more from what you see in the pic of it on the rulein order to get it strung.

Very cool Mr Cat, the real question is does it conform to the 5/8 nanometer rule?  ;D

Del

I am shocked that you are so weak you can't handle 300 scale pounds. I suggest diet and exercise, and build up those fingerprint muscles.

Nice work! Just beautiful.

I think Ken needs an osage flatbow too.  I'll be happy to send over a slivver of osage and a couple strands of sinew.  :)

Gorgeous work Del.
