During this build I found a new respect for you ELB builders. The "D" shaped cross section and slight bend at the handle were very hard for me but this piece of ERC if there is such a thing was perfect so here it is.
It's 67 51@27... I was going to use the horn from an antelope I took in the 70's but it had some issues that made me believe it wasn't trustworthy. In stead I use some Stag (Mule deer) for the tips and rest... I wrapped the handle in braided hemp and put rawhide on the back. The back is finished (rawhide is pretty plain) with a coat of pecan stain and while still wet and application of dark espresso. The wet application caused the grain effect.
My daughter started getting interested in ancestry a while back and has traced our family back a long ways. A couple of years ago she gave me this Coat of Arms. It's supposed to be ours??? Anyway here's my version of an ELB with the Newton Coat of Arms :)

Thank you guys
A little side note... My Grandfather Newton (everyone called him Newt) was a whittler... He made almost all of his tools and I have a small collection of his carvings and I have a few of his tools. Since he died in the first year of my life these are 65 to 80 years old. This the first time I ever used his tools. I used his little gouges to inlay the stag striker plate...anyway I thought it was kind of cool :)
Some of Newt's stuff...

Very nice looking stick. Well done!
-
That is a very cool ELB, Kip. You did a beautiful job of dressing her up too. 8)
Does the coat of arms mean you are the Duke of Milk Bones? ;D
-
Wonderful job Kip!!! You make a fine looking bow.
-
More like the King of Milk Duds Pat... all 265#'s of me :)
-

-
Dang Kip, you are kicking out some nice bows. That is a great looking bow. Looking forward to the full draw as well. Love the finish on the back. Great idea. ;)
-
Darn if that isn't a dandy right there! I have a 72" ERC stave seasoning and you may have just inspired the bow inside that stave. Very well done!
-
I'm with you AMH. I have a well seasoned, fairly clear ERC stave from a friend that passed away a few years ago. It would make Tom B proud! An ELB would be the perfect bow for Tom's stave. 8)

Keep shooting that bow and sooner or later you will get some decent groups, coaster500. >:D
Actually, I think you are wasting most of the target by concentrating on the center. I personally prefer to spread my arrows out more. A side benefit is not breaking nocks so often either, ya know?
Ok, you know what we want. Do we all havE to start changing "full draw, full draw, Full Draw, Full Draw, FULL DRAW, FULL DRAW, FULL DRAW, FULL DRAW!"
I like that bow, buddy, ya done gone went and done good.
-
Clever arrow rest!
-
Nice, I love it!! What a great example of the beauty ERC can have. Great job
-
That ERC sure makes a good looking bow....oh, yeah, I guess the bowyer gets some credit, too.
Great job!!
-
That is a fine looking bow.I am with the hooligans. Full Draw, Full Draw...................... ' Frank
-
You put a lot of good ideas into the finishing details on that bow, and they all worked together really well! It's beautiful, I love everything about it!
-
You have come light years in a hurry Kip, nice finish work. I aint saying nothing about the bow until you prove to us it is indeed a bow......you know just whatta mean.
-
The neighbor came by this morning.... I tillered the bow to 29 inches for safety reasons (This ERC kind of freaks me out)... I am drawing it 27 or so... Not the best but shoots real well :)

Thank you guys

Thats what i was waiting for ;D. I know pics dont do that one justice..its always hard to capture the real beauty of an ERC bow in person. Looks good to these eyes ;)
-
Whoa! That is one of the nicest bows I have seen on this sight.... Great job... Wish I could get my hands on some erc...
Jon

Absolutely beautiful bow! Gorgeous. I bet ya it smells great too! (love the smell of cedar). I can only imagine how fast it spits an arrow given the light weight of cedar.
-
Nice practice bow, pity it's not one of the best. Send it to me, I'll pay the shipping, and you can then start on "the best" one.
Meanwhile, I am goin out to my mailbox where I am going to hold my breathe in anticipation.
-
What ya doing JW collecting them ????? You got the best one now :)

It's just simple greed, that's all.
Honestly, there are very few bows posted in here that I would not be honored to carry in the field. None-the-less, this bow of yours is a hall of famer if ever there was.
-
Nice bow, great tiller.
Like that wood carving too.
Del
