Title: russian bow
Post by: sadiejane on April 06, 2012, 07:08:19 pm
a buddy of mine is doing some rehab in an office space.
i was in the bldg and he asked me to come in and look at this bow.
the tenant of that space is from russia and has a russian vodka import business.
it is all horn and rawhide. there is no wood in the core, nor sinew on the back.
i appears to be two horns held together under the rawhide at the handle area.
the arrows are lovely, well made. but no heads.
thought yall would enjoy the pix

Woah that is insanely awesome. That bow really shoots? It looks like a high brace height. Insane. The nocks are so well done. What a cool bow!

Is it a wall ornament or a functioning bow? If its been braced for that long would need to be heated and reworked to function again. And MAYBE shoot. If it was shee ment to in the first place.

But dang that thing is wonderful! I would love to achieve that level of craftsmanship.

That thing is awesome.  I need to make a wall hanger for my office.  It sure won't be that cool though.

James did you get to shoot the one you "held"? I wonder how it would shoot?

sadiejane did your friend tell you what part of Russia it came from?

The person that put that package together had some serious skills. Do you know how the bow was obtained or was it signed. very awesome craftsmanship

coastal500,, i didn't want to shoot,, it had such a low brace,, I'm sure it would have slapped the heck out of my wrist,,, it was  very low # with a very late draw weight, maybe 30+#s @ 29 or 30",, I'm sure it was a tourist trap bow

sorry guys- i know nothing more about this bow than the pix reveal. didnt take it off the wall-it is not mine, nor my friends. the fella who owns it was born and raised in southern russia and i believe actually still maintains his residence there. he is just here to attempt to create a market for the russian vodka his great uncle distills. i did touch the arrows as i wanted to see the points(there were none on any of them) the arrows are the real deal, exquisitely crafted and with any sorta head would be deadly i think. nicely carved self nocks, fletched with lovely feathers and delicate sinew wrapping. to be honest the arrows drew me in more so than the bow.

Fantasy bow and nothing more. A waste of a good set of horns.
