Title: A couple knives
Post by: J. DEMPLER on April 23, 2012, 07:52:53 pm
Here are a couple of knives I finished up this weekend.
The first one is damascus with oak burl handles.
The second one is a-2 with toasted curly maple handle.

I really like the look of those.  Are those copper rivets, or how did you attach the handles to the blade?

Number 2 will be fine. I believe you already have my address? All jokes aside, those are some beauties Joe. I like them both, good job man.

I used copper nails and a two-part epoxy to keep the handles on.
Thanks buddy, I might be able to make another one and send it your way!
These are going to the auction that our church has every year for its small private school.

Keep it up and may have to buzz down for that auction. Im pretty sure there is a sinew backed osage bow that will sit pretty right along side those knives. I hope the school strikes it rich!

Bowartist, the guard is forged from copper and nickle, my interpretation of mokume.

Criveraville, the damascus cuts pretty nice. If you are asking about how it works up, it grinds like any other steel. Edge wise, its nice , but I would rather have a tool steel blade. Damascus is sweet, it looks really cool. But some of my sharpest knives are made from tool steel. O-1, A-2, D-2, and 5160 are my go-to steels. Stainless is to expensive for me to mess with! Damascus is only for special occasions!
