Hi,
I would not know how to find decent sinew (I can't hunt yet).
So in order to make a decent replacement bowstring i was considering nylon fishing line, was thinking 14-18 strands should do the trick for a 40-50 lbs flatbow.
Could the experienced people in here give some opinions on this idea?

PS, your best option would be to use bow string material like B-50 or if you want to go natural linen thread. You can get the B-50 from 3Rivers Archery or other trad archery suppliers. I'm not sure where to get the linen but I'm sure others will help.
The problem with fishing line is it is very stretchy and not appropriate for bow strings.

Avoid (unbraided) nylon fishing line like the plague. Use B50, fastflight or linen instead.
Have you seen this topic? (http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,33197.0.html) It'll help you out a lot.

I can send you enough black B-50 to make a string. PM me your info if you want and I'll send it out.
For the experienced string makers, how long of a piece do you think he will need?
