Hey guys,
I have a bitternut hickory stave that I recently cut.. Very nice piece of wood.. it has no twist and a slight dog leg at one end.. There are no major knots on the back but it does have a few pin knots... The stave is 55" long and is from a sapling that was around 3 1/2 inches at the bottom.... I would like to trade for a standard 1.5 x .75 inch hickory board that is at least 55" long... I will also trade for a hard maple or red oak board of the same dimensions... The board needs to have grain suitable for an un-backed selfbow! This means no knots and minimal grain run off.. Pm me if your interested... Thanks

I'm heading for Wood Stock immediately! They gotta have something I can trade for that stick o' hick! I love it! I see a nice ELB in there!

Cool JW let me know what you find.. I want to remind you that it is only 55" long so its gonna be a short ELB.. Definitely a nice woodland style bendy-handle bow though.. Let me know..

Find anything JW?

I found a fantastic load of hickory out there this morning. Not sure how the sawmill did it, but they cut every single board diagonally outa the dang trees! Make good smoking wood, but poor bow wood. Sorry. >:(

Ok JW thanks for looking... I have a twin to this stave that I'll have for a while, if ya ever find a nice board let me know and we can work something out... I'm also looking for some hickory backing strips or an ipe board if you have any of those to trade...

Wouldn't take much work to make a hickory board out of your stave, perfect ring orientation would be assured.

I know I could make a board from my stave, but I am no where near that good wit the limited tools I have... Plus I just need a board to help my dad make his first bow.. Thanks for the thought.
