Title: 4 more osage staves for trade...
Post by: toomanyknots on July 12, 2012, 05:24:13 pm
*STAVE  1 AND 2 ARE NOW SPOKEN FOR.*

        * STAVE 3 IS NOW SPOKEN FOR. *

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got some more osage staves for trade. All about 4 months seasoned. All staves have zero knots and are nice and clean except for a small one on the outside of stave 4, which can easily be avoided. Please send me a PM if you are interested, thanks!  ;D

Stave 1  *STAVE 1 IS NOW SPOKEN FOR.*

- Length: 72 1/8"
- Width at small end: 3"
- Depth at small end: 1 7/8"
- Width at large end: 3 1/8"
- Depth at large end: 1 1/2"
- 3 3/8" natural reflex

Notes: This stave would make an excellent longbow or narrow outer limbed holmegard especially due to the high natural reflex, but any flatbow from this stave is going to require some correcting due to propeller twist.

- Width at small end: 3"
- Depth at small end: 2 1/4"
- Width at large end: 3"
- Depth at large end: 3"
- 1" natural reflex

Notes: This stave is very crowned and came from a small diameter osage tree. This stave will not make a flatbow, unless the back is very very crowned, and can mostly likely only be used to make a d section type of bow, like a longbow.

Thanks for PM...I am intersted in one.  I want to use it to build my first osage flatbow...I have 29" draw so would likely want to get 66" when finished at least.  I am about 75% through a hickory stave so a true novice with no local mentor so it is all reading so far in TBB.

If yours are too advanced for me then dont worry...I will get a few more hickory or ash staves and keep learning. :)

None of these are novice staves. I really can't recommend you take any of these staves on as a beginner. I did send you a PM. If you still want one, I can hook you up, but please get a good 10 or so bows under your belt before you dig into it, as it would be a waste to make all the beginners mistakes we make when we are first starting out on some high quality bow wood like osage. Where I live maybe only 1 out of 10, if that, osage trees are usable as bow wood, just cause of knots and twist and not growing straight and stuff, where as red oak boards are at your nearest home depot, so I would think it is more reasonable to learn on something like that. Saplings are great to learn on too. You can go almost in anyone's back yard or camping ground and find a good sapling of bow worthy wood.
