I made a really cool looking osage bow that I should of put skins on.I was wondering if there is any way to put skins over a wax finish?
-
Wax is what you use when you don't want anything to stick to it.
-
yeah I really like the wax finish.looks like I will be saving the skins till the next right bow comes along.
-
Sounds like a good plan. Enjoy what you have and make another!

You could always degrease with acetone.
-
Yes, acetone will remove grease, but not paraffin wax. Once wax or oil have been applied to wood, it's nearly impossible to remove it since it penetrates the wood.

Very true.

I've used wax on my personal bows for a dozzen or so years. As far as I concered there is no better water proffing finish. All other finishs seal by covering up the wood (pours). Wax when heat in with a hair dryer. The wax go's down in the pours deep. Once done there's only one way to remove the finish and thats sand the bow down to below where the wax has seaped down into the pours. And ity's easy to apply.
Your right save your skins next time put them on first.
