Title: new abo Osage bow
Post by: Ryan_Gill_HuntPrimitive on July 28, 2012, 11:28:36 am
Little Abo Osage bow i put together. (not really abo, but whatever..lol) It's a thin little bow, about 1" wide and tapers to 3/8" nocks. 64.5" long overall, bendy handled bow. 40# @ 28" has some cool wiggles and a nice knot hole in the lower limb. so light in hand and has a great feel when shooting it. It's no where near my hunting weight, but a neat little bow just that same. made up a set of 6 bamboo arrows for it too. has just enough character to make it interesting! thanks for looking- Ryan

great looking bow! I really like any bow where there is a natural defect in the wood and it is worked around succesfully! :)

Another nice osage bow Twisted, your tillers are always right on. Those light weight skinny osages are fun to shoot and can be quite
fast with a arrow matched well to the bow, even at 10 gpp. Good job with that one, I like it.

What is 'Abo'?
Ln the UK I'd take that to be an abrevaition for Aborigine... but I don't think the Aborigine had bows.. maybe you meant to make a boomerang?
Or have I got the wrong end of the throwing stick?

thanks guys-

Del-  The term Aboriginal refers to "the 1st people to inhabit an area".   like abo knapping is with antler and hammerstones, i guess the big thing that makes my bow "not abo" are the tip overlays.  but the simple design made to shoot without too many fancy bells and whistles is what i mean.  than and its all done with hand tools, but not stone tools.    so in reality a real Abo bow would be a bent stick made by hand with stone.    this one just isnt as fancy as my standard bow...lol so its abo for me.

Cheers,
Thanks for the clarification, I'd not come across that useage...
Being a bit obsessive about these things I'll dig out my dictionary.
But don't worry I won't bore you all with my findings ;D
