Here's my second bow it's made from hop hornbeam and is 62" ntn 48# @ 28". It is 1 1/2" wide to about mid limb then tapers to 1/2" at nocks. The skins are snapping turtle tails and are wrapped with sinew to make the transition to the outer limbs the outer limbs are left natural with a horse hair tuft on the top limb. The handle wrap is leg skin from one of the snapping turtles stitched with sinew and two turtle claws hanging from the ends. The arrow strike plate is a scale off the turtle shell. I also died the mid belly to kinda match the skins I used dark green over dark brown rit dye. The pics don't really show the colors very well. It's finished in tru oil with a coat of clear satin spar urethane on the skins.
All animals used in the making of this bow were consumed and delicious! Cept the horse he's alive and doing well. Lol
I really think this bow screams primitive. Let me know what y'all think.

Turtle Man's going to be pissed! That bows got some live action.
I had a bow long ago that I put a tuft of horsehair on the top nock, thanks for reminding me of that. I think that looks cool.

Now that is awesome! I love seeing new things and creative thinking. Great use of the skins and tiller looks fantastic. Horse hair tassels finish it off nicely. Well done!

That's one 'shell' of a bow.
Now take it hunting and see if the turtle beats the hare!

That's awesome! way to think outside the box. It's very primeval. >:D The tiller is very good as well. Excellent second bow.
-
Very unique bow, love the down and dirty look of it. Great work Judo and I have to agree with AJMag, that sucker is intimidating pointed in the direction of the camera. One of the coolest, most primal looking bows I have ever seen.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments!
Turtle I'm glad you didn't thunk of it cause I dreamed up this bow over five years ago and was worried ever since someone would beat me to it. Lol though it would have been fitting considering your handle and all.
JW I'm definitly going to have to take it out for a race with the snow shoe hare! Good idea!
Badly bent I also love the down and dirty look. I didnt clean the skins or anything the lower one still has moss on the spikes. But when I started to put finish on it the first coat brought it to life and it looked great but after a few I noticed it was starting to sparkle like diamonds and it was taking away from it so I was worried I wouldn't be able to get it back to that natural look but one coat of satin spar urthane did the trick.
LivingElemental I got the turtles locally we have them in our ponds and creeks as far as you getting some I don't know what to tell you I won't take any more than I need since a mature turlte is pushing 30 yrs old or older they repopulate slow as a turtle.
Well thanks again to everyone for looking and commenting!

Thanks Jerry I didn't make the arrow but I'm going to be working with a guy that's the head of the michigan flint knappers association this weekend so hopefully soon I'll be making some decent arrowheads. And as long as your coming up this year you'll see it. Looking forward to seeing you guys.
Thanks owlbait she shoots great! I havent got a speed on it yet but it seems pretty quick for the weight and being a couple inches longer than I'm used to I have no problems with accuracy.
Thanks again to everyone for the compliments!
