Title: Heading to Uwharrie Mt. area would like to find some Knapping rock.

Anyone know of a good road, river, creek, anyplace to find some good knapping rock around the outside of the park. I really like the hard rhyolites. Thanks for any help beats driving around the county at todays gas prices. I will be in that area for two days. Someday I will get the nerve to post some picks. I just make points and knifes to give away. I don't use then myself.

Post by: Ncsnipe on August 01, 2012, 01:18:40 am: I'm not real familiar with that area , but the way I like to hunt rhyolite is to look for new housing developments. Usually the ground is already dug up and it only takes a few minutes to see if there is any good rock in the area. Also look in new road cuts. Hope you find some and let us know how you do.
