Title: "Ole Fencepost"
Post by: HickoryBill on August 05, 2012, 04:43:41 pm
Here is my latest Osage bow..It is made from 1, 60 yr. old fence post, given to me by an ole farmer...I split the post in half and chased down to a decent ring on each billet..The rings were really thin...The bow has a nice "s" profile and a retained 2 inches of natural reflex. I cut the "Z" splice by hand and glued the billets together with tb3..I floor tillered the stave and added a stiff handle of maple and zebrawood..The tips are walnut..and the bow is backed with 2 layers of goat intestine( natural sausage casing) The bow pulls 46#@26, 60'tip to tip, 1 1/8 wide tapering to 3/8 tips, and shoots pretty good.. it is prop twisted pretty bad and has snakes and kinks...so the tiller looks a little off from the one angle...the finish is 10 coats of tru oil...Hope ya all enjoy...

Real nice bow there Bill, looks great. My first were from 65 yr. old osage post and the fact that you can make a bending, functional bow
from those things really got me hooked on selfbows. You did a nice one there.
