Well it's been a while since I've posted any point pics on here so I thought I'd give you something to scroll through and look at instead of working hard like you SHOULD be doing! Hahaha. From top to bottom: Montana Agate, Novaculite, Brazillian agate, Burlington chert. Enjoy....

Beauties! I'd be a little gun shy huntin with those, hmm hmm!
-
Love em all! :)
-
Outstanding points. The fine serrations, the narrow entry notches, the symmetry, & the materials. They are too fine for arrow shafts. Congrats on your skills. Tower

I agree i would not let them touch the dirt or animal hide unless it has already been tanned and placed in a shadow box..

The way the picture was taken really shows the true colors and craftsmanship of the points with the black background and the way the light hits each point showing the hafting in the notches you could look at them and see something different everytime.
-
I sure like those points ;)

I have a question. When fastened to arrows, it looks as if that is siniew, so does the sinew shrink as it dries thus holding the arrowhead rocksolid(pun intended ;D) on the arrow?
-
YEah, sinew holds points on very securely. In fact, based on my experience, sinew is superior to just about any modern string or thread, due to the fact that it shrinks as it dries. It also becomes very thin. So thin that it leaves no abrupt surface to slow penetration. Use some pine sap glue to secure the point, then wrap over it with sinew and you will be amazed at just how strong that primitive glue and binding really is. I've shot arrows like that through deer and the stone point is still mounted as though I had used modern epoxy.
I don't like or use fake sinew for wrapping stone points onto any of my arrows...it just doesn't hold nearly as well as real sinew....

Man! Them are Purdy! Josh

Thanks guys for the kind words. Actually those are my pretty ones and they stay in my case. Like I said in my article a while back, I usually make the ugly, rough ones because those are the ones I hunt with. The ugly ones I hate, so I just shoot them at the first target of opportunity, hoping to smash them into pieces so I can get rid of them and put a new one on. you should try that....using ugly points when you hunt. I'll bet ya dollars to doughnuts that you actually kill more animals that way!! It sure worked for me....

I'll find out when I get the chance billy. For now, I'll just try to get better at knapping.

I dont have any rock that purdy.. also all i make is ugly points when i do make em.. I need to find me a bow just not sure where to start i have one with training wheels i have killed deer with now i want to try it the right way..
-
I just took the picture with an old Kodak easy share camera. It's max setting is 5 megapixels, so it's really OLD! But for internet photos I take it at it's lowest resolution of 1.1 megapixels because there is no need for such hi-res photos on the internet. I just put up a black background and backlit the point. It's all about lighting. Good lighting can make an ok picture into an awesome one.....

Very nice 8)

Very nice all of them, but like the firstone best!

Very nice, good pics!

I may have to try that next time to see how it comes out. Will have to see if I can find some agate of some kind
-
Thanks guys. Don't underestimate the ugly points now....they are deadly and I've killed LOTS of animals with ugly, but sharp, stone points. In fact, the ugly ones are what I hunt with!
-
