Howdy, I just got back from a road trip through north west Nebraska. I stopped and took some shots of the scenery occasionally, just to illustrate why I didn't succeed in becoming a bowyer as a lad. Now in all truth I picked my views. After all I was traveling along the north edge of the Nebraska National Forest. The signs at the state borders boast that Nebraska is the "Home of Arbor Day". Which maybe explains why My aunt has memories of being part of a WPA project in the 30's that was planting much of the afore mentioned forest.

Lots of Trees!!!!

Good grief! It looks like a moonscape compared to my neck of the woods. The absence of trees would freak me out.

You aint kiddin' there! We need to cut trees down just to get around up here. I would still give my left one to hunt that land and those deer.

almost as many trees as where i live!! are you sure those pics aren't from around chinook mt?
-
you might get a bow out of one of those fence posts.that is the only wood i see.
-
Ha! Got you beat! >:D
-
screw that..I enjoy a good walk through the woods!
when the weather's cooler that is ;)

Jackcrafty, That does look nasty, though the eastern part of Cherry Co and the western part of Keya Paha Co in Ne suffered a huge range/ forest fire just a week before my visit. That area wound up looking a lot like your pic.
Killrduck, Well it does look something the same, doesn't it.
Seabass, The older fence posts are nearly all western red cedar. They make an OK arrow, but not bows. The newer posts are all pressure treated pine and they're not good for much, but keeping the barbwire off the ground.
Sonny, A walk in the woods is good, but being able to quite literally see for miles is grand too.

M-P... yeah, lots of sky is nice. And it's not too bad here: Just an hours drive and I'm swimming in juniper! :)

Blame BevanR for cuting all the bow wood!
Where I come from in North Dakota they say there is a pretty girl behind every tree. I couldn't wait to find my first tree!
-
JW, I hadn't heard that one. I guess I looking for the wrong reasons. Ron
-
>:D I see lots ah good bow wood holding up all that useless wire.

Ron,
Thanks for the nice pics. It makes me homesick. Looks like a wet year. Was the traffic that heavy the whole time you were there?
My highschool bowhunting buddy has a place just south of where the fire was-North of Johnstown.
Did you see my old tree stand while you were there? It used to make the barbwire sag when I climbed into it.
Dawes and Souix counties were my most frequent range.
