Title: Bamboo taper

My bamboo is now seasoned enough and its cool enough in my garage to work. I can't believe its this cool in Texas in August. Some of my sticks have a horrible taper. By that I mean if I cut the nock end at 3/8, the point end will be 9/16 or more. Are these usable or should I let the kids have them?

I've never tried shooting a shaft with that much taper. Why not make one up and try it out? I'd be interested to know how they work as I have a bunch of these which I currently use for fire starting etc.

Cut your point end at 3/8". That should give you a 5/16" (mol) nock end.
  What kind of bamboo is it?

I hear ya. I can't believe it's below 100 in Houston.

I've found that all my best shooting bamboo shafts are way smaller in diameter.  Like 8 mm. I started making them from larger diameters, like 10mm and a little bigger, and they flew horrible from my 55lbs osage. It could have been any number of things I was doing different to cause the bad flight, but the best ones I have that all shoot tight groups are thin.

The only thing you can do it finish and try them.
