Title: Yew Recurve "crotalish"
Post by: ravenbeak on August 30, 2012, 02:46:31 am
Well,   I set out to build myself a new bow.    I sold my personal bow a week ago and was really missing it.  I wanted something very similar.

The original was named "crotalus"  and this one is named "crotalish"

Same skins,  same colour,  but with a few little additions.   This one has a much nicer fitted grip and the arrow rest is half an antler from a little spike buck, where it attaches to the skull.    I don't have the leather grip on yet,  but it is getting real close.

The stave had a couple inches of natural reflex and the final bow has kept most of it.  It rest with the tips about 2 inches infront of the handle.   Tips are buffalo horn and it is silk and snake skin backed.   I will get more pics when it is done done.

cheers,
Jamie

        Ravenbeak,
Please give us a close up on that antler rest! Looks interesting, really nice curves.

WHAAAA? I hope he didn't stain Yew >:(  sacrelige, snake skins are ok as the sapwood is rather soft... but stain?
The only Mahogany stain I've ever used came out looking like a tart's lipstick  :o and I had to go over it with dark oak.
I try to avoid stain these days, but i still get the odd drop of ketchup on my shirt front ;D
