It is 94 degrees but I am heading out. Like I told Charley (stingstrecther) guess
I'll take the shotgun as broadheads tend to tear up too much meat.

Just got back from the fields, got 8 not to bad ;)

They are too pretty to shoot here..................stupid.............I may have accidentley hit a few during my younger days rabbit hunting with birdshot. Even accidental dove deaths are yummy!

Cowboy made some arrows a few years back for dove hunting and actually connected with some. Maybe he will see the post and chime in.
Enjoy dove hunting a lot, especially when the birds are migrating.

I got an invite to a Premium field this year, I can't wait. Good shooting, Lane.

For the last few years the local mgt area has put on an unbelievable dove shoot on opening day here in N Alabama, so many doves you can't decide which one to shoot at. The do scatter the winter wheat seed pretty heavily a week or so before opening day on the crop land, sure draws them in.
My problem in going this year is I am 64, will be 65 in November. In Alabama you get a free license if you are 65 or older. To go dove hunting next weekend I will have to pay $42 for a one day hunt. I think I will sit this one out.

Tracy I appreciate the link.I've killed a few robins on the ground (yes I eat'em)
with a judo but have never even tried a wing shot.
Eric I believe I would let it go myself. I have a different problem this year as the
field and cutover I am hunting is a 100 yds. from my best deer stand. The big
cutover holds deer but is so thick you are talking gettin' in to 7 yd range. A couple
birds fell into that area and were hell to find. Picked my shots different after that.
Because I was stupid early, my deer are already super spooky and while I dearly love
a dove hunt I figure to hunt a pay field the rest of the year. Can't afford much of that.

I am going to have to get my arse out at least once for doves since I got the new flintlock 20 gauge. May as well make good use of my new excuse for missing!
The ONE AND ONLY retrieve on a gamebird by my now passed Scully was on a dove. A friend splashed one down in the stockdam and she finally decided to swim out to get it. Not bad for a sheltie cross mixed breed mutt* that hung around with a less than reputable master!
Mmmm, dove breast, wrapped in bacon, flash seared over hickory coals. Served medium rare with something cold, amber in color, and full of little tiny happy bubbles. Pure heaven.
*Nary a trace of birddog in her. Everything but!

I used to love to shoot doves but around here nowadays it's all about politics favor doing and back scratching. If you aint with the in crowd or own you're own land you don't shoot. Ron

That's the way it's gotten down here, too. Guess I'm part of the "In" crowd this year ;D.

Well you are the social butterfly! >:D
