Been working on this bow all summer. With the character and  severe natural reflex I had a time gettin it lined up. After multiple heat correction sessions I finally got it bending evenly. Thats when I noticed some checking on the back. So I put rawhide on 2/3 of the lentgh of the bow and covered it all with a dark rat snake. It has a little more hand shock than Im used to, but it shoots well and pulls a nice 52# at my 28 1/2".

Here's the rest of the story.

Thanks guys! I actually used the rat snake cause I wasnt sure if it the bow was gonna hold up, but it ended up pullin it all together nicely.

Sorry jdub, it's already named!

Thanks all. I just drove out and handed it to my buddy who wanted a bow to start huntin with. (Love making new converts! )

Here's a look at this stave before it was a bow. I was real close to puttin this piece of wood back in the corner at this point. Glad I pushed thru it.

				One nice bow,nice work.

Thanks again! Sometimes, it's nice to have a variety of interests (arrows, bows, stone points.) Makes it easier to put one project down and leave it alone while ya work on something else. There's no way I coulda finished this bow if I would have worked it straight through. I had to set this dude aside several times and just think it thru.

Thanks Ed. Up next to some of these fine folks I feel like a regular "Scrooge"! I reckon as long as I'm trying to model generosity, like as not I'll make it someday.   ::)

Very nicely done Scott. Tiller is spot on and the skins of course just set it all off with that crazy character. Beautiful job.  Danny

Thanks guys... means alot... Bows like this make those pipe straight staves at home seem mighty plain.  ;)

Super job persuading a beautiful bow like that out of that challenging piece of wood.Like everything about it.Side view resting profile outstanding.

I know this is an old one, ...but I've been re-reading old posts while I wait for code to re-compile,  (...worse than watching paint dry!)

I really love the way this bow came from a stave that looked like it was determined NOT to be a bow.

Obw, glad you brought it back up. I either missed or forgot about this one. With the fine tiller at full draw I can't imagine any handshock. Beautiful job Stringman!

-
				Nice bow, great effort

-
Nice bow, sweet skins, and that reflex looks like fun with those wiggles ;)

-
				Very nice snakey

-
I can see about 20 hinges there that all make up a great bow.
 Very nice.
-
I missed this the first time around. Very nice! Them tips look pretty small. I am working on a osage character and have been wondering about how thin and narrow I can get with tips without overlays. This one gives me a clue. Thanks, Marco
