I just finished this bow for my sister, My guess is that it is about 15-20 lbs maybe 25. Its 55" ntn and the draw is around 24-26" This bow is made out of a red oak board scrap and the handle is wrapped with a leather strip and has a leather flap for an arrow rest. it has a super water resistant deck sealant. I dont think the tiller is perfect by any means but i do think it will serve the purpose.

It looks nice, and I am sure she will love it because it was made with love from her brother.

Give her some light arrows to use with it and it will do itself proud.

Thank you autologus. shes very happy with it, in fact, this scrap piece of wood wound up being my best bow yet just because i took the time to make it glassy on the back and belly. And yes i will have to make some new arrows since that one is about 400 grains, so ill just need to use lighter tips.

I forgot to mention that this is a bend through the handle bow. If anybody was wondering how to do that, all i did was removed a bit of wood and stung it, put it on the tiller tree and place something strait on top. When you look at the bow handle you should see some bit of gap (very small), once you have achieved that small bend then your handle is bending. I'm sure there are other ways of doing it but it really works if you have a hard time seeing the difference between not bending and slightly bending.

I guess the main reason for posting these photos is to show you all that good work doesnt mean it has to be the best material it can be a peice of junk wood or could be a quality yew stave ;) I guess i also posted them to share lol

That looks pretty cool. It's definitely rewarding to make a bow out of scrap material and to have it last... plus now u have more experience to make some awesome stave bows >:D

Ok guys, i just finished tillering and sanding a replicate of the bow to silky smoothness. i put deck sealant and am waiting for that to dry. when im done im going to wrap the handle with cloth and then it will be almost done. i did make the tips thinner and the bow had perfect grain and growth rings, so it is thinner than the other one that i made for my sister. This new bow i will post pics of when its done. its going to a friend of my sisters who has been taking her uncles bow and shooting it.( that bow also happens to be made by me) the arc isnt perfect, but for the purpose in mind it will do wonderfully! i took last night and from about 9am to get this bow to where it is now.(didnt have my band saw this time...)

Nice job on sissy's bow. Lookin forward to the pics of your new one. What kind of deck sealant are you using?

Thompson water sealant. seems to keep all form of water travel, at least right away. if it were taking a bath it might be a problem, but for my purposes it seems to do the job. ill post pics of the can too.

this bow turned out at about 15 at 22 inches, the girl i gave it to will be getting a longer draw as she grows, thus increasing draw weight.

Lighten those tips a lot. You'll have a lot less hand shock.

ill keep that in mind for my next few bows, i think it shoots fine though, there is very little shock anyways.
