So I've got this buffalo horn that's been sittin around my shop for about a year. I finally decided to do something with it. I don't have what I need to steam it, so I soaked it in water for about 48 hours, and clamped it to 2x6 to flatten it out. Anybody know about how long it should stay clamped to dry out, or if this will even work?

I have used it for tip overlays and the like. Works fine for that. Not sure what your intent is with it.

Trying to flatten it to use for horn bow.

Never used it for that. That is what I got it for initially, just never got to it. Let someone else speak to your question directly, but I can't see a reason it would not work.

contact Robustus (James Parker).. he's a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working horn.

You need heat. You can't just soak it

Boil it till its playable. Not any longer. Then clamp it down. I left mine clamped for a few weeks, bc I wasn't sure how long and didn't want to under do it.
