Got some gorgeous yew lumber from Brian Melton almost 2 years ago and finally got around to finishing something with some of it. hickory backing, ipe core, yew belly. 63" ntn, 52# at 28". Went for sort of a gentlemans target effect. 1/8" ipe strip with additional 14" thin power lam of ipe in middle. has 2" reflex. 1.5" wide out to taper 14" from tip. Had 5/16" yew strips ripped, used the end cutoffs for the handle. Brown osage tip overlays and underlays, and arrowpass gaurd. Glued up with flat sawn hickory initially, and a splinter arose late in tillering mid limb. I took the labor intensive route of hand sanding the strip to 1/16 with a block and 24 grit paper. then I belt sanded a vertical hickory strip to near 1/16" and put it on over top. Nice shooting bow.

A couple more pics. The detail shot of the handle side showing the arrowpass side guard came out as a blur - I'll have to get another becuase such a feature is pretty fancy for me.
the ipe was a real waste scrap, a piece with a lot of vertical checking cut off the outside of a 4x4. Worked fine for this though.
Had a bit of a challenge after second backing cause of eyed up thickness of sanded strip.had to retiller a bit.

Wow. I have to say thats freakin' sweet!

Very nice. Should be fun to shoot on the range or in the woods :).

thanks. Came out pretty well. Are my pics a little blurry? Hard for me to tell.
To Finnish Dude: Glued up with 3" reflex

The pictures look fine Dave. I think once you see the beauty of the bow in person, the pictures never can look right. ;) It is a beautiful bow. Any chance of getting a close up of the side of the limb. What is the total thickness of the limb. I'm still thinking on these Ipe laminated bows. Justin

Whoo whoo! A real contender for Sept Backed Bow of the Month. Thanks, Dave!

Justin, the specs are 9/16 at the fades, 7/16 mid limb, and 5/16" thick just in front of the tip overlay area. Couple detail pics. Limb side detail is lower half of liimb
