Here is a quick,(a relative term) bow I made from a stave of Seagrape I got from Parnell at the Classic (thanks Steve.) He said that , as far as he knows, just him and I are the only ones who have worked this wood....Cool!!!
The wood itself is.....different. It has no discernible growth rings and works well with hand tools. It is light weight(the bow only weighs 14 oz.), but be careful cutting it out because it will trick you on how thick it needs to be. Despite its massive appearance, it only pulls 50#. It seems to be quite elastic, almost fells like drawing a sinewed bow. It also heat bends well.
Specs: 60" ntn. 50# @ 28", 1.5" at widest point, .5" @ tips. Stands straight at rest.
This bow has very good performance and is very quiet.
Thanks for looking

Awesome bow! I never heard of seagrape.... Where does it come from? Looks like you made a fine bow out of it. ;)

Thanks. Seagrape grows in Florida, on the coast I believe. I am not sure if they are a protected species or not. Maybe Parnell can chime in and help us out.

i really like the handle and tips! the style you use is great ;D The bend is great too!

YES! Great work Cody! Thank you for doing that stave right, it looks like you've got it working properly! I've got another in the works that shouldn't be too far behind.
Sea Grape is protected when it is natively used for a beach brake. It grows all over Florida by the water and found just behind the grasses and initial dune area. The pieces I'd cut were landscaped pieces, though. They were growing into the roof of an abandoned house so I'd cut it to be a good sumaritan! They'd been growing staight right up next to the house. By the beach it gets all gnarly.
It's used here in S. Florida frequently to line the fences of the supersized gated neighborhoods that this area is so well known for. ::)
Again, awesome work Cody!

Nice bow Cody. I like the looks of that wood and I'm not surprised that it shoots good. Looking at the fd shows that you got those limbs bending nice and smooth. You make some real nice bows.

It grows ne up the coast also. My brother lives in SC and once worked in GEORGIA some where it's protected there also. But only live he sent me a few back in the early 90's. When I was makeing bows form anything and everything. It is light and has no rings to speak of and it will take some back volations.
I made 2 bows from they turned out ok but it's no OSAGE. BUT MAKES A BOW. I did'nt make my with so squared edges maybe thats where it's at.

Nice bow Cody. I really like to see bows made by others from un familiar wood. Danny
