Title: new bow question

started the tillering process on dogwood holmgaard bow. It is 60 in. long. A splinter just popped up just above the handle because of a pin knot. If I choose to back it which is stronger sinew or rawhide? I tried to send pics but failed twice. I would like to salvage the bow if possible, too much work to give up so quick. Thanks for any advice. Has anyone ever used chamois wiping sheep skin for backing?

Thin rawhide is easier then sinew and will work real fine to hold down splinters.

Made my first rawhide backed bow recently and it's the greatest thing since baked bread. I would probably glue down the splinter first, though.
