22.5" wide on the outside! :o thats a big deer any where let alone in are neck of the woods.
-
holy ####

From what little I know about scoring deer horns I measured and came up with 155.25" but I may have done something wrong, still its a nice deer for around these parts. I believe one of my moms neighbors shot him during rifle season last year and never found him because he asked her for permission to look for a big buck he hit that ran across the road on to our property.
-
Very nice deer,maybe he has a brother,or Dad. ;D
Pappy
-
Not much meat on him though ;) ;D
-
Thats what Im hoping for for Pappy! ;D
I wana see his pappy! :o :D >:D
nope no meat on them bones Dana...... :P
-
Holy Crap's right ;D. That's a nice'n for sure - their's good genetic's in the neighborhood, sure he's got kinfolk around there :).
-
Hey, nice find!! Id say its 150-160 class easy, however it would look much better on the wall with a couple o arras across the tines. Good luck with his next of kin! Auggie.
-
make some really nice knapping tools ;D
-
Jamie beat me to it-those antler bases look like good knapping billets. That's a helluva buck, I'd like to see one like that this weekend so I can send an arrow 2" over his back or under his belly ;D
-
My guess would be more like under 140.
Nice deer but looks like a lot of inches would have to be deducted for lack of symetry and extra little stickers on the left side.
-
Really nice rack, I'm sure he's passed his genes around the area and there's an eldest son coming to take Pap's place. :)

Hillbilly, I'd rather think you'd cut a 2" slice through both lungs! ;)
-
havent seen anything were Ive been hunting so I might try it up by my moms tonight. >:D Finding that skull may have been a sign, that I should be hunting there...... ;D
-
Greg, you haven't seen me shoot....... ;D
-
Nice rack Ryan. We got pics of 3 different deer at our club with split brow tines a few weeks back. We have hunted that same piece of ground for over 20 years and never seen a split brow tine on any deer. Some or these critters are totally nocturnal. I hope his bro or dad will screw up and give you a chance. Pat
-
As far as Im concerned take and measure what the good lord put into the rack and the deducution crap, well its just crapola, and Ill leave it at that. Auggie.
-
Beautiful f it was me I'd hope he was the male slut in that neighborhood. 8)
-
Ryano great find. Here is a link to help you score him.

You might talk with the guy who was looking for the big one he shot. If he describes it right maybe you could trade the rack for hunting rights
-
Thanks Ron. I already showed it to him, hes not sure if its the one or not. Im sure he would let me hunt his land if I asked anyways, he always has in the past. Hes not a archery hunter. I dont think he showed any interest in taking the skull, hes killed lots of big bucks.
-
NICE FIND!!!!!
-
;D 8)

My buddy remeasured it to pope and youngs spec's and came up with 145.25 gross and 12" of deductions for a net of 133.25" not bad I think I still would have shot him! ;D
-
I think your buddy made some mistakes. It has more deductions than that. Every inch that is not symmetrical is a deduction. Missing an entire point of that size is a lot of deductions. Lets call it 145.25" non typical. ;) He is pretty no matter what he scores. Justin
-
I thought us primitives wern't trophy hunters ??? :o ???
-
Justin,we did deducted the 6" G4 two 1 3/4" kicker points plus a couple inches for symmetry on the rest of the rack. Pretty sure he knows what hes doing.
Dana, I'm not what I would call a trophy hunter but I still try to kill the biggest buck I can find. Don't you? Doesn't mean I don't end up shooting a smaller one near the end of the season, but I always take a doe for the meat so I really have no reason to shoot a small buck. Measuring a rack is just for fun, I like to keep track of the biggest deer harvested on or near my hunting areas and this one would have been close to being the largest ever.
-
Ryano i wouldn't pass on a big buck thats fer sure but then again I don't think I would worry about measuring it either.
The way its going so far this year I may have to settle for squirrrels :( The area I'm hunting just don't have many deer,
no farm land and no mast crop this year but it is mine alone to hunt so no competition. Tough hunting to say the least.
-
Ryan, I thought G4 was longer than that, maybe 8". Maybe that is why it didn't seem right to me.
Dana, there is nothing wrong with measuring. It helps give non-primitives a better appreciation of what can be done with a stickbow. I measured my pronghorn to see how he would score. He scored 9" over book, but I didn't bother to submit him for the book. Justin
-
That is about what I would have guessed him.140gross and net around 130.Very nice deer.
I'm no trophy hunter either but I sure like knowing there is one around that I might stumble
into.Like I have said in other threads I am a trophy hunter till something else comes a long the I go into the kill mode.Just can't help myself. >:D :)
Pappy
-
Pappy I'm surprised that you see any deer, I imagine the deer have posters of you in all thier bedding areas warning
of the dangerous predator lurking in trees ;) ;D
-
Your just like me pappy. I go into instinctive kill mode as soon as I see any deer >:D sometimes it takes everything I got to hold back. I just cant help it! I always have the best of intentions to wait for a certain buck I'm hunting for, but it seems like that never happens.
Dana, in my area of the state a buck has to have 4 points at least a 1 1/2"long on one side to legally shoot. This forces you to pass on many of the younger smaller deer anyways. So its not hard to say I'm not going to shoot a year and half old 8 pointer, but some times I end up taking a small one towards the end of the season. I would rather shoot a small buck with my bow than a big one with a rifle...... ::)
-
I am with you Ryan,I set in the stand and daydream about a big one coming in,but when the small one come instead I say O WELL a bird in the hand.I do pass some small ones and even big does sometimes ,I just don't decide till the moment of truth. :) It all depends on what is going on or
how I feel at the time. :)
Pappy

I'm pretty much the same way. I try to get a couple of deer under my belt, then I'm more apt to pass on smaller bucks. But I will still take a doe if given the opportunity...it is a three doe per day limit here. :)

Holy sheech, 3 does a day? I'm gonna be moving if I can talk my "better" half into it. ???
-
ryan i went stalking and found a side from an 8 pointer i saw last year but never got a shot on. they dont get long tines in the area just thick beams. it was in anarea ive walked over a hundred times and actually just killed 2 turkey about 2 paces from the area. id take a pic but i already cut it up for knapping :)
-
lol. ;D The wife of the guy who we think shot this buck called my mom today and asked if she could buy the rack from us for her husbands birthday. I wouldnt feel right about taking money for it. I really kinda wanted to keep it, :-\ but I'll probally end up giving it to him. :'(
