nice work Jimmy.it looks great brother.
-
Love it! That is very nice work! Good job!
-
beautiful work! black walnut is one of my favorite woods for bows, and many other things. it is a very versitile wood
-
Nice work! I've had really bad luck with walnut chrysalling.
-
That's a beauty Ranger!

I've had bad luck with walnut too,but it is highly elastic per its mass, and so light it can make a fast bow. One of my faster bows( not really a bow tho) was a trapped hickory backed all heartwood walnut 68" ntn 30/70 ratio lever bow. It was smooth pulling n smoking fast, but after 50 shots it had fretted..I was bummed cus it also looked very attractive..also had a problem with a stave, but it didn't fret, but its tiller went out of whack after shooting in,fixed it,then the other limb went out of whack even after tiller was good and corrected, and so its weight went too low for me,so I tried to break it and see how far the stuff would bend..holy smokes that stuff can take a bend and not break..I bent it 90 degrees and it still didn't break or fret yet it was narrower than the trapped hickory backed walnut,so I never broke it n set it in the "corner" as a reminder. One of these days ill give it a whirl again...funny you post this cus Pearl n I were mockingly talking about walnut earlier today..lol.
How wide is it? Good job...you've done something I haven't been able to do yet..lol.

Great looking bow Ranger. That black walnut is sure beautiful wood
-
Now that's a mighty nice looking bow there my fellow Paratrooper.
-
cool bow i really like the riser
-
Ya I'm with killir duck on that riser comment looks really interesting....... ;)
-
Well I must say that turned out nice! You done a fine job on that piece of wood ;)
-
Thanks guys. It's 1 3/4" wide. It is all sap wood except for that bit you see in the grip. It's pretty quick for the bow weight and very smooth. Frankly, it's smoother than most all of my osage bows but the softer woods tend to be a bit smoother. I'll be interested to see how long it holds up. I draw 27.5" and I hold at anchor for several seconds. I love the way it shoots right now so I hope it lasts.
-
I agree they are lovely to shoot, and x3 on the riser/ handle area... well done!
-
that is some mighty fine work..its a great blessing for the holidays..john

Nice job, Ranger! I agree with them other fellas....the color of that walnut is awesome! 8)

nice bow ranger, I love black walnut beautiful wood (and tree), never made a bow from it cos its so expensive to buy and hard to find here
-
Sure makes a beautiful bow, and seeing how my son will be dropping a black walnut in his yard soon, I look forward to trying it too. Did you start with any reflex in the bow before tillering?
-
Cooool bow "B" !!!!!

Very nice bow and video to boot.Nice shooting also. The hickorys here give me that kind of back too.Was that a complete heat treated reflex put on your bow or just localized touch ups?
Old Gun Doc will like this one.
-
Thanks. I'm very happy with it. Smooth shooter.
-
Great looking bow. I personally don't like the cut in shelfs, but your work is awesome! And a nice piece of wood too.

That is a beautiful bow. I have a friend who has walnut lumber and I am considering trying a board bow from it.... I am curious about the stave that you started with and what your opinion would be of attempting a board bow from walnut. Thanks for posting this and I really enjoy your videos.
-
Turned out really nice Jimmy,I was wondering last night if you had finished it up yet, should have known. ;) ;D ;D Can't wait to shoot it. :)

I have never made a board bow so I'm clueless. I had a good straight stave that only required dry heat tweaking.
-
That handle shot is beautiful. Nice bow Jimmy.
