I now see police officers but they're not even directing traffic around all of the debris.

Funny how these people weren't even prepared to stay with a vehicle for 24 hours

I wonder what they would think if they knew their vehicles will be loaded on the back of a flatbeds and hauled off.

I made it to town and never got stuck! The police looked paniced and it was just a winter storm. Well I kept thinking they were going to stop me but I pasted  before they had time to focus on me.  As i drove through a ditch to get around a pile up an officer started walking toward me but I kinda kept movin and he just turned back around like  it was to much to deal with. I did not want them directing me to the county roads because some are not clear. Its just a big mess!

WOW  :o  Is that the first winter storm if this year?  Around here it seems people forget how to drive in snow over the summer.

we get lots of that in Yosemite because rental agencies do not allow people to rent chains or put them on rental vehicles when they send them to the SIerra! Flatties(usually drive flat straight roads) definitely do not do ice and snow!

Did the ALIENS swoop down from space and snatch all those poor motorists?

Seen a similar situation in Montana 2 summers ago when The mussleshell flooded. The only way to town was a "dirt road" that went the long way around to get to town.  It was so muddy that once you got on it you couldn't stop or you would get stuck even with 4 wheel drive.  Dozens of vehicles buried in the mud. I drive my wifes 2 wheel drive suv along side the road in the sage brush for MILES and 6 hours later, made it to town.   That was a baaaaad day.   Looks like these folks are in the same boat but colder
