Title: hickory bow ring violations
Post by: Lee Lobbestael on December 23, 2012, 04:38:30 pm
hey guys my buddy is making a hickory self bow and the rings are really thin. He scraped through when trying to remove the cambium. So he tried to chase the next ring down but scraped through in several places due to the thin rings. I told him to just do the best he could, get the back super smooth and hickory will handle the violations. What do you guys think?

Hickory can handle ring violations better than any other wood, especially if the earlywood is really thin like it typically is with hickory. Sand it out smooth and carry on, if hes really worried about it do what bubby said and slap some rawhide on it.
