I started a Hickory backed Eastern Red Cedar the other day -

Here it is after roughing it out, I only used a hatchet, surform, and a combo rasp/file on this one :)

Your gonna want to get your inner 1/3 limbs working some. Especially with a pyramid front profile your gonna want to get a more circular tiller. That bow is gonna be a beauty with some tru-oil!

I agree. Can't wait to see the finished bow, I got a couple erc boards I am just itching get bending...

GEEEZEE!!!!!   Duck,,,what  the  heck  would  you  do  with  power tools????  I  can't  wait  to  see  this  one  done!!!!   where do  you  get  the  ceder  from??  JeffW

-
i just came from my local lumber store and they have a bunch of erc, granted they are riddled with knots, but its there

-
I actually ordered the backing and the cedar from pinehollow longbows, always great service. There aren't really any great lumber yards where I live, so I order most of my wood.

I'll have to remove a bit more wood from the inner 1/3 and see how it looks, this is my first time working with cedar and I have to say that it's a bit different. Works really easy, and smells great :)

I forgot to mention the specs - 64" TtT, 4" handle, 2" fades, 2" wide running out 2" and then tapers to 1/2" at the nocks. Right now it is about #45 @ 25", I was going to try to tiller it out to 28" but I don't know if it'll make it if I do that.

Looking good Duck, I got some ERC logs cut this oct. can't wait till they are dry. Good luck with this one.

-
I got it finished a couple days ago :) It's super light and a decent shooter. Came in at #40 @ 28" 62" NtN 1 3/4" at the fades down to 1/2" tips. It took about 1 1/4" of set, but I was expecting that since I glued it up straight. I think I need to take a photo class, I can never take decent pictures...

(the shadow behind the bottom limb makes it look funky)

				Really turned out nice.

-
				I agree, turned out beautiful.

-
That is really nice...I'll bet it feels good in the hand...always have liked light bows.

-
That is a great bow, I think my next one will be a Ash backed ERC.  I have the Ash just need to get the ERC, I have a good source for anything from 4/4 to 8/4.

The camera angle is off in the last pic (full draw).  Have someone take the picture with the camera at the same height as your arm.

 edit:  Nice bow btw
-
That's a sharp looking bow!  Well done sir!  Josh

-
				That's a beautiful wood there... Congratulations ;)

-
Pretty bow.. That turned out real nice.

-
Yes thats a pretty bow. Light bows are fun to shoot. Mike is a good guy too. Met him at OJam. Danny

-
				Thanks for the compliments.

Definitely will not be my last HBERC. Next one will be a little wider and maybe with some reflex glued in.
-
				sweet! that ERC looks cool

-
i think it turned out really nice.good job.

-
Really nice bow and love that contrast.Enjoy.Did you mass weigh it before you put the handle wrap on?Your hickory is how thick?

-
The wrap was just temporary so I took it off and weighed it. My scale says 13.2 oz. The Hickory was 3/16" and the ERC ended up around 5/16" to 3/8". I've put close to a 100 arrows through it so far with no signs of destruction... yet :P

-
I see thanks for sharing.Looks like a very nice combo there.Looks like it's right on track mass weight wise to be a good shooter according to Steve gardners' mas weight formula.Your idea about your next one should be even better I would think.

-
This one looks very good. Clean work, NICE wood.  8)

-
That ERC is on fire !!!

 Nice shooter :)
-
I'm still trying to find a handle that looks good, but then I though of this -
