Hi all
has anyone used lemonwood for bow making?? does anyone have a source?
thanks and happy holidays to all

I have never used lemonwood but I do have a stave I plan on using in the next few months.
Lemonwood is native to Cuba and in small amounts from Central America. There are sources for lemonwood in the US but generally it is very expensive if you can find it.

Here is a link to a bow that I made out of lemonwood recently. And I have another that I just glued up. It is really nice wood if you can find it.

I used to have a hardwood dealer near me that sold lemonwood in board form. It is hard to find, though. I understand it grows in Puerto Rico, but not sure how you would get it back to the mainland.

Mine will be backed with hickory. I only hope it comes out half as nice as Gordon's.
It will be my first attempt at a power lam if I decide to do so.

My neighbor has a HUGE lemon tree in her backyard ;D
I wonder what the punishment would be for cutting down a tree on private property >:D

that is the wrong lemonwood bow junkie.they are talking about Degame.a wood that is yellow in color.it is hard for us to get in usa because it comes from Cuba.

my second bow I made was a bamboo backed lemonwood. I didn't really know what I was doing and it had a pretty good hinge but it held together. Pretty forgiving wood.
Then last year I made a madake bamboo backed lemonwood HIll style from a sweet piece I got from James Parker. He said it was pre Castro that he got from a guy. Turned out great. 70# @ 29"

It may be available under another name ... http://www.woodworkingnetwork.com/articles/archives/WWP-wood-products-magazine/degame_127693093.html
