Is this the second true Mesolithic Molly style bow?

Wow, yes, beautifull, doesn't look to be an ounce of spare wood on it, those tips would prob' flex a little at my guess.
I think we should vote it BOM immediately ;)
Thanks for the heads up, I gotta make one of them in 2013.
Happy new year everyone.

Just noticed the distinctly keeled belly.
This looks sooo like some of the so called Andaman/Holmgaard designs from the TBB books that I'd swear that a modern bowyer had just dropped that one in as a joke! ;-) ;-) The quality of the preservation is second to none too - I want to see this one in the flesh one day!

I have read about these finds but have never seen any photos of the finds. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

Awsome find:-)....and good work finding that article...its new to me:-)
This find elimintates all doubt wether or not the Møllegabet artefact is a bow...it IS:-). It also shows that this style of bow was not just a "fluke" of a single bowyer....it looks like it was a "regionale" thing from this period (Møllegabet and the Hjarnø artefact are from the same period).
@Del:
Whych elm in that design and with those dimensions will not have truely stiff tips....Im certain that it would flex a little.
@Whitebeam:
I tried to visit that museum last summer, but it was closed....looks like it will be until 2014.
I agree that it looks like it has a keel...I kinda hope it is just the lightning playing tricks.
I feel with you guys....as if pronouncing "Møllegabet" was not hard enought, you now have to tackle "Hjarnø".....good luck:-)
Cheers

Would that design flex in the handle area or would it remain stiff?

Interesting article Whitebeam, thanks for posting.

Nah ... we'll just anglicise it to 'Jarno', or something similar ;-)
After all, what's so hard about saying 'Molly'? ;-) ;-)

Would that design flex in the handle area or would it remain stiff?
Im wondering this too.

And me. From the look of the handle area, it doesn't seem to be particularly heavily built, so I would have said it bends through the handle somewhat, but I'd like to see some closer views of the riser/handle.
I can't log in to see the article, unfortunately ???
And it's "(hee-)arnoo" or thereabouts ;)
Have to agree with Whitebeam - it is sooooo similar to TBB's A-H bow, it's spooky
Definitely got to have a go at one of these 8)

Very cool! Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting.
Funnily enough i've just finished this bow....or virtually this bow....elm and apart from my handle fades being a little 'steeper' pretty much the same!
I'll post some pics later.
I have to disagree the tips would not have bent. This bow was made by a master who realised just how little extra thickness is needed to stop them from bending ;)
The handle is designed to be rigid and would have been, again only a surprisingly small bit of extra thickness makes a lot of difference to stiffness.
