Title: What would you do with this?
Post by: Dean Marlow on January 02, 2013, 05:01:28 pm
Here is a a Osage bow I have been working on and when I started to take the belly wood off this is what showed up. It is a pin knot on the back and a big cavity in the belly. If this can be filled what would you use. I don't think I can take it out. It would make it narrower than I want. It is 1-1/2" wide. Dean

since you left enough width around it,i don't know if id fill it with anything...its the king and sometimes I like having gaping holes n such flaws in my bows...its what gives it its own identity and character. super glue and saw dust,or drill it all out and insert a dutchmans plug if you feel the need to cover that mole(beauty mark to me)up ;)

I'm with blackhawk. Carefully clean it out right through to the pin if you can and polish it up.
If it doesn't open right through you can always eat your soup out of it >:D

I would try leaving it alone and see what happens.  It will give you a place to stick your chewing gum while you are shooting.

I just made an Osage bow that had a similar knot at mid limb and I just dug it out and had a hole in my bow. I'm glad I did, it turned out great.

Looks pirty wide for mid limb. If it's wide enough I elimite it. Thats to big a knot for me to leave it and work around it and work it into the bow. I don't build a bow just because it can be done. Been there done that alot.
LOOKS MEEN A GREAT DEAL TO ME.
