I nock below.  When I'm holding the bow with the arrow nocked it won't slide up the string if I bump it on something while walking.  I guess that might be why most nock below, but I don't know for sure.

I don't know for a fact but I think folks started nocking below when tree stands became popular and they would hang their bow while sitting on stands. Years ago I read an archery book and the author described how when he could draw an arrow from his back quiver and put it on the string without looking at the arrow. He'd just slip it on the string and slide it down on the nock indicater. Hunters usually either stalked, still hunted or used ground blinds in those days. It also works well with speed shooting. I like the nocks loose on the string so I couldn't hang an arrow on the string unless I'm holding it.

Of course it would depend on where you locate the nock on the string, but most people nock their arrow below the nocking point to keep the arrow from climbing up the string while drawing.

I nock under because i sometimes while hunting i will hang my bow with an arrow nocked. My self nocks fit loose and arrow will fall off if i nock above.

I have always knocked under so when I draw the bow there is no chance of the arrow sliding up the string.

I nock on top. I thought that was how everyone did it. :o

I mainly use red osier and the diameter of the nock is not the same on all of my arrows. If I nock under, with changing diameter of arrow nocks, wouldn't that effectively change my knock point?

I nock in between 2 tie on nock points one above and one under. Leave enough space so not to pinch the nock at full draw.

Stevey wrap some dental floss around your string a few times and tie it off. Your nocks will tighten up. Even though your stopping it from sliding up, it still will cause nasty arrow flight if the knock is too loose.

I've always built up my string and formed a small nock on each side. This way it's all in one and I can build it up to fit my self nock.
A METAL NOCK ON A SELFBOW STRING DOS'NT LOCK THE PART.
