How thick does a 1" wide handle need to be? I want a non bendy handle. this one is currently 1.5" but it has these cracks. Basically I'm a newbie. What do I need to do with this?

That won't cause you any problems other than maybe cosmetic. Might be interesting like it is or you can cover it with a handle wrap of your choice.

No prob' Looks like the centre of the log is still within the handle and the cracks radiate out from there.
They prob don't go further than the cenre pith.
I have several bows with little cracks like that in the grip.
Longitudinal cracks are rarely a prob' anyway.

You can fill it with superglue if you want but those cracks shouldn't be a problem. I like to leave them exposed on the handle when its finished. Why cover up a beauty mark with a leather grip?

Good to hear. I'm certainly not ashamed of ANY character marks as long as they won't affect safety. What is the standard dimensions of an non bending handle? 1" wide x 1.5"deep??

There aren't many standard dimensions when it comes to selfbows.

1"x1 1/2" will do just fine.
