Have you shot any yet looks like they would be good for small game.

Those things were made to be arrow heads. A big alligator gar would give you a lifetime supply or arrow heads.
-
Nope, haven't shot them... they were expensive to get. ;)
They are much stronger than bone so they should be good for all sorts of small game. I imagine that a very big gar would provide large enough scales for deer hunting.
-
Patrick, will you bring some to the Classic? I have a small piece of gar skin with small scales and often thought they would make great bleeders for stone tipped arrows.
-
Sure, Pat! I'll bring several. :)
-
Are you bringing El Destructo with you this year? 8)
-
Prolly not. Not sure what he's up to these days. I will be by myself again this year.
-
Well, we'll take care of you so you won't be lonely. ;)
It will be good to see you and all your cool stuff again Patrick.
-
:)
-
Very cool, looks deadly for sure, that's what you call using what you have. Ya El has fell off the face of the earth.Miss that guy. :( :)

Cool heads, Patrick, I'm going to have to get some.
ElD is hot and heavy on Facebook.

I like this post. I agree it looks perfect for lil critters. My brother just caught a 5 ft alligator gar 3 months ago. We threw the scales away. I didn't think about arrowheads.
-
patrick-were those scales that flat naturally?
i have a half dozen or so someone gave me at mojam a cupla yrs ago.
they are not quite as flat....
still intend, one of these days, to get em hafted into arrows anyways.
nice!!
-
Yes, the scales I got are naturally flat. You do have to be picky and select the best ones, though. Some of them are curved. Seems like the largest ones are the most curved.
-
Thos look like they could do some damage. I need to get my hands on some of those scales. My gears are turning now.
-
What size gar was that off?
-
Pretty cool.
-
I don't know what size gar those came off. Maybe someone with more experience can tell us? They came as a mixed batch of about 200 scales total, probably from several difference size gar.
