Little late in getting info out. This will be year 15 for the mojam. Dates are July 18-21, 2013. You are welcome to come early but you risk a lesson on running a weed eater. See everyone soon. Keith
-
This is a legendary event in the selfbow world, I got to get out there some day, maybe this year. :)
Pappy
-
Would love to meet you Pappy. The wife and I want to head your way one of these years. Will probably have to wait till we get out of the education profession but is definitely on our list for future road trips. Keith

Plan to be at MOJAM a bit early again this year. Already have the time set aside on my work calendar.

I am a newbie at this game, but was considering driving to this. anybody have any info they can provide? activities? lodging? what all goes on at an event like this? Just curious, and this seems to be the only thing in reasonable driving distance to me.
-
Basically it is a bowbuilding event with people there on hand to offer assistance and answer questions that you mighthave. Plus there are demonstrations on heat bending, bow layout, ring chasing, tillering, and also a clout shoot, two free archery ranges, free ice, an awesome pool, free primitive camping, cheap genders and traders, cheap food, a free practice range, a kids shoot with trophies for all the kids that shoot, a live auction with some great items. There is also a beautiful park less then a minute away that has a free disk golf course. There are close hotels within five miles and a town with everything you might need including restaurants and movie theaters. Don't forget good people and a pot luck dinner on Saturday. Yes it will be hot, but there is free ice! I won't miss it. It is my favorite event of the year and I bring my family as a summer vacation. Hope to see you there.

-
I remember that Mike... Dont happen like that to often, lol
-
Anyone that is interested in helping put on a demo please contact me. Any and all help welcomed and appreciated. Keith
-
Bringing the family again this year, we always look forward to it. I just gotta rustle up some trade goods and find a few arrows.
-
I'm planning to get there on Wednesday . I'll be bringing a bunch of dogwood shoots that are well seasoned for arrows.
-
looks like Sal, Rob, John, Gifford and myself will make our old camp again...really looking forward to it! I think I'll bring a couple of Joe Mattingly's bows to shoot while there...it only seems fitting. :^)
Bob
-
Where is Mojam held?
-
Its at Marshall MO. Right in town on the edge of the town park. The local archery club manages the area and has a pavillion and some shooting ranges.
-
T-minus 18 days and counting. Time to get some arrows and darts made.
-
We'll assume that the beer is bottled already...?
;D
-
I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait. I will be there wednesday evening with my boys I think. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Hopefully there will be big turnout and cooler weather.
-
I'm hoping for a Wednesday arrival too with the rest of the family coming on Thursday. :)
-
Oh yes, a nice variety of beer is ready and waiting. A little wine for the ladies. Even some spirits for medicinal purposes or snakebite.
If this weather trend holds it would be nice. We've had a couple of fairly cool MOJAMs.
I hope to come over Wednesday as well, if we get to do this we'll camp that first night. Otherwise it'll be an early Thursday drive.
-
Well I certainly believe in preventative medicine... :) We still have some of that mead and I will be bringing it. A true Archer's drink. ;)
Looking forward to seeing everyone and yes, this kind of weather would be nice. I remember those cool Mojams quite fondly...
-
I also have another new hobby that I'll unveil when we're there. Because I needed a new hobby.
Plus I bought a kilt and that might make an appearance just to see what kind of reaction it'd get.
T minus 15 days.
-
ANOTHER new hobby? :o
Hmmm, a kilt and a new hobby, you have taken up playing the bagpipes...? ???
Yep, 15 DTG.
-
Plant to attend early with the lodge if not saturday anyway. We might luck out with it being a little cooler anyway.
-
Lenny..... I sure hope you get some sun before you put on the kilt..... Between my bald head and your legs...someone could go blind, lol
-
Thats why I go to MOJAM, to get some sun.
And no the newest hobby isn't music related, it is wood related though. Me and the boy did make a ukelele from scratch last winter and just had some spruce cut for more instrument tops, but thats not the newest hobby. I'm not Rumpelstiltskin so you don't get more guesses and I won't reveal until the event.
-
Well OK... guess we'll have to wait for the big reveal. :D
(I hope what's revealed ain't kilt related tho...) :o
-
I'll be coming in from the south. What's the directions once I get to Marshall?
-
Wish I could help more but I just travel north until I see a Casey's gas station and then turn right. Then just one more right into the park and follow the signs. I'm pretty sure I am going to be there wednesday night. Looking forward to meeting new people this year and seeing old friends.
No offense Paul. The old meant from the past few years. Not age lol.
-
JonW,
Come up on 65 into the south edge of town. Turn right at E Yerby then veer left past the cemetery on E Vest St. Entrance to the club grounds will be on the right just past the golf course. I think there is a sign for the archery club?
Hope this helps.
"Old"... :o
Sheesh, I ain't " old, Dave....Just well seasoned. ;)
-
The count down is on. Looking forward to seeing everyone. I dug a pile of bow blanks out to maybe work on during the week. See you all soon. Keith
-
T minus nine days.
We went through the arrow collection in preparation for the event. Alex made three new cane darts for his favorite atlatl, they fly really nice. I still haven't decided what I might work on. Maybe this is the year I sit down and learn to knap. Or I could just nap.
-
T minus 7 days, a week from today the fun starts. Although we might not show until Thursday morning.
Got in a dozen arrows from Kustom King, need to stick points on them. May be the first year ever that I have a full dozen matching arrows at MOJAM.
I have a pinched nerve thats causing me considerable pain in my left arm, hopefully that will have gone away by next week.
-
Starting to get everything ready for next week. Gotta get the camper mobile still and decide what to trade and bring up. I also need to make up some arrows. Definitly gonna be there wednesday night. What's for dinner?
-
Never a shortage of good vittles at this event. I'm going to smoke some pork from a hog we butchered a month ago.
Last night I sorted through the bow stash to find something for the 15-yr-old boy to shoot. He's way past kids bows and the 30lb milksnake bow is too low of poundage. I have one longbow that pulls 35lb, and everything else is 45+. He thinks the 45lb is too heavy although I think with a little practice he'd find it would work well for him. He's going to try shooting a couple of them today. Both kids practiced shooting yesterday, they are true MOJAM addicts like their stepdad.
T minus 6 days.
-
Getting closer, hope your pinched nerve is improving Lennie . I got that black locust split the other evening for ya. :)
-
John (aka Blister. He always shows up after the work is done) is bringing some calf fries but I don't know for what day. Keith
-
Any day is a good day for calf fries. :)
Well, except for the calf.... ;)
-
aint gonna make it guys work wont let me get away have fun Brock
-
I've got three whole chickens ready to cook up for Saturday and Im gonna make some pie tonight.
-
Will be there for my first Mojam am planning on showing up as early as I can, is there and site fees or check in?
Looks like a lot of people are coming early so i am planning on being there thur morning.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
-
No fees and the only sign in is a map where ya put a pin in where you came from and a clip board that we write our names on.
It's kind of a freestyle camping set up ,water on site is a spigot and we set up out tents along the road in.
Looking forward to meeting you Ranger.
-
It'll be my first MOJAM too. Coming from Pottawatomie Co, KS. Showing up early thursday morning; looking forward to it!
Ben
-
It's always great to see that folks are coming for the first time.
See ya'll soon... :)
-
As life usually does it told me I have to wait till Thursday morning to go, but ill be there early Thursday, maybe Wednesday night if things go well. Ill be set up near the shooting range in my old popup camper if anyone wants to say hello. Looking forward to seeing the new guys as well.

A plan is just a list of things that are not going to happen Dave... ;)
Might have to adjust my "schedule" too due to a gasoline leak. Either way will be there when I get there...
-
I will be there early Thursday too. I am looking forward to seeing and meeting everyone. See you in the morning!
-
Early Thursday morning for me. First timer as well.
-
I had a good time time Thursday talking to Kerryb and Will. It was fun watching Kent and the wild bunch blitzing osage staves into bows in just a few minutes using an angle grinder. I didn't get to hang around long, but it was well worth the trip just to hang out with some pretty wonderful people.
Lyle
-
It was an outstanding MoJam! DVS, Howard, and NoNose worked themselves way too hard and the results were lots and lots of newbies having very nice first bows! The the long shot and clout shoot with John's warbow sling those huge arrows was amazing...the auction was a total blast...the meal was excellent...but it's seeing old friends and making new ones that keep most of us coming back. Looking forward to the next one already.
Bob
-
I had a blast. There were lots of new faces this year which was great. Having Howard there as well as no nose made helping out a real good time. I always wish i had more time to meet and greet with people but that's what the eveningngs are for.
I'm still uploading my pics but I should have them tonight or tomorrow and ill post em up.
-
Dvs and Bob.. It was a pleasure meetin you guys! And thanks for the arrow trade Bob! They shoot great off my bow. Wish we coulda stayed longer...it was my gals 1st primitive event and she had a blast. Kerryb hooked us up with a coupla staves so today she got a lesson on roughing out with an axe and chasin a ring. ;)
-
I had a blast too. Thanks to all, and I'll be back next year with my kids.

Me and the family had a good time too, day camping with KSPaul and gang. The heat was brutal as usual but we managed to stay hydrated.
My boy used his spending money and my Genesis longbow to get first place in the clout shoot (shooting from the adult line). He scored some nice prizes including a hop hornbeam stave from the Twin Oaks TN boys. Paul got some advice on ELBs and started whittling on his nice yew stave. Wives and daughters hung out and were of limited use (if they see this, just kidding). I carved a mushroom on the end of a stick (wood carving is my latest hobby) and bought a rock at the auction. Got a free lesson on using a stringmaking board, never had used one of those. Wore my kilt to the potluck, Paul kindly wore his camo lava-lava so I wasn't the only one made fun of. Hopefully no pics of that surface.
As always, it was a little different from last year and quite interesting. Keith and the Marshall Bowhunters did a good job once again. To whoever used the poison ivy leaves when the TP ran out, God help ye.
-
I had a great time this year at MOJam. It was good meeting several new people and seeing friends from past MOJams. There were others there that I wish I had got to meet, I just never made it too far up the hill. I am already looking forward to next years. I hope that by next year I will have enough experience that I can be one of the guys helping the others make bows and give DVS hunter, Nonose, and Howard a little help. Looking forward to seeing more photos!
Tom Sawyer, tell you son Congratulations on winning the clout shoot! I was standing right next to him when he was shooting. He put me to shame! He kicked all the old mens butts :)

These are all the pics I thought to snap with the phone. Wish I'd taken more but I hate enjoying things through the lens of a camera.

a few more...

Looks like a great weekend was had by all. Maybe next year for me, have to admit the Missouri heat kept me from making plans and coming but it was as hot & humid here as there so I should of just came after all. Gotta keep that
in mind next year. :)
-

Sorry I was on the dang phone when you came by, it was my oldest daughter that I don't hear from often. She has great timing.
That pretty gal wasn't your sister? How'd you get so lucky? And she can chase a ring, cool.
-
Lol. No.... Not my sister.... Thats the future Mrs. Doerge...and your right, im VERY lucky ;)
-
well I hope she isn't mad about you getting arrows for yourself and not her... :) Th guy I gave the stave to was very happy...hope you are too.

;D Had a fantastic time, it was well worth the drive. I learned an amazing amount, got to watch some unbelievably talented people working. Thank you all very much for your help ( and your patience with all my questions) I got my bow ( the one with the mystery wood) to shoot a few arrows still needs a little finishing, but that wont take to long.
Got to meet some great people your hospitality was amazing. I cant thank you all enough for all the help you guys gave me.
looking forward to next time.

It was great to see everyone this year at the 15th Mojam. We had a fine time camped up on the "hill" with tom sawyer and his family where we ate and drank well and even did a little bow making stuff. Seeing old friends and meeting some new ones is all part of the fun and the pot luck supper and auction was not to be missed. If only to see Lennie in his kilt.. ;)
(I do believe that he did that just to distract the other bidders since he went away with some pretty good buys. ) :)
It was good to meet folks and put some faces to the names and "handles" that you see here and get to visit with them.
I'm already looking forward to next year.
-
Regardless of the weather MoJAM is the place to be.
Seeing old friends is a highlight for me. I recall the early years, I worked much and visited little, now I visit much and work little.
I'd list off all the great folks but since I'd forget some, suffice it to say, best folks ever.
The Marshall Bow Hunters are great hosts and every year hit the mark for hard work and cheerful dispositions no matter what the weather throws at them. My hat is off to them, one and all.
Our camp, John and Sal, Bob at work, Caveman IL thanks guys, Next year, same time, same place, Good Lord Willing.
-
We all happy Bob! :-) ..... I found her some arrows to
-
Was good to see everyone again and glad everyone had a good time. This year was a banner year for bow making. Dave, James, Howard and Mike made the bow building area the place to be. Thanx guys come back next year and I will double your pay. Keith

-
Looks like you all had a great time. Thanks for all the pics.
I had full intentions of making it down this year but surgery in May put me back a little. Haven't even been able to shoot a bow in the last 75 days. It's tough just watching them hang on the wall.
Bob, I still have that great bamboo back/belly longbow that you made. Wished I could have met you in person.
-
it was a great mojam...wish everyone could have made it...ended up send Mudd home with a skinny hickory backed Ipe to fulfill his ELB desire... and my friend Sal went home with a sinew backed osage static recurve... trying to make some room around here... :) bamboo backed bamboo is a special shooting bow for sure... that's what I shot in the clout and long shoot this year...too much fun!
Everyone needs to mark their calendar for next year!
Bob
-
I agree bob! Mines marked already. Im gonna bring some rope next year. We'll shoot some of Kerry's bows. Lol I was glad to see the big turnout this year, but like you, wish more people would post about it. The Marshall bowhunters are excellent hosts with two free ranges, free ice, cheap tasty eats, and just an awesome place to meet. Thanks to all who helped work over the weekend to make it so great for the rest of us. The people that attend mojam are some of my closest friends even though I only get to see them once a year. If I had to spend a week in hot weather that would be my group.
You better make it again next year bob! I'm looking forward to shooting more of your bows and drinking more of your wine!
-
Thanks again for posting more pictures Dave. :)
It would be nice to hear from some of the other folks who were at Mojam, especially the first timers, and get some fresh insights and impressions. With so many folks there and so much going on it is often hard to find a balance of visiting, building , helping , shooting, shopping, resting, etc.
ONE of these years I still plan to sit at the knapping site and learn how to make a point. Yep, one of these years... ;D
-
Glad everyone had a good time and thanx again for all the help. I cooked a BBQ contest this past weekend and had to wear a sweatshirt and my stocking cap. The high temperature today is 76. Missed the mojam by one week. Maybe next year. Keith
-
right... and we are suppose to believe that... ? LOL It was actually pretty nice this year...clouds and a breeze most of the time... Keith, it was fun!
Bob
-
Keith - no kidding, we had a low of 52 a couple of days ago. So close yet so far away. Do you think we would know how to act at MoJAM in cool temperatures? Seems like ya gotta sweat while makin' shavins at the pavillion. :)
-

Had a great time loved the campsite, loved the weather :-).
thanks so much for all your hospitality, and all your patience with all my dumb questions. Thank you Marshall bowhunters for putting on a great event.

Hey there James,
Good to see ya posting Amigo. Looking forward to the pictures.

-
Here's my favorite PIC from MOJAM this year. This is DVSHunter, aka Dave, who did an awesome job both providing XXX hooch and teaching the finer points of primitive bowyering. Note the pencil stored in the beard. At one point he had hidden in there a pencil, a tape line, and a carpenter's square!

Plus two larks and a wren.
And thats a real man's shot glass he's holding.
