Here is a little Ash wheel barrow handle ambush bow I finished up a couple of months ago and just haven't gotten around to posting. I do not have a full draw pic yet but will try to get my photographer (aka wife) to cooperate. It is 57" ntn, 1 1/16 wide at the handle tapering to 5/8 at the tips, it draws 40# @28" and has about 1/4" of set. It is a smooth bow and shoots really nice, it is extremely light in the hand. After looking at the full draw pic, it looks a little stiff outside the paint on the top limb. I must have not noticed that when tillering, I don't know how I did that. I guess I am going to have to take a picture and look at it when tillering.

Nice work Grady. The braced pic tells me the fd pic will be a sweet one. Nice attention to detail on the finish work to.
-
that looks great. i have had my eye on a long ash scraper handle at work with dead straight grain that keeps screaming bow at me. i think it might find its self in the back of my car one day after seeing this bow. >:D
-
Technically that is only half a handle, I still have the other half to make another bow from.

Very nice Cayuga style bow, Grady. A few years ago some of us did a Community bow and we did a Cayuga style but on ours the red tips were covered with coral snake skins.
You did a nice job on this one and I'm looking forward to the full draw pic.
-
Very nice work on that one ;D ;D

Nice bow Grady. I like the paint. Where are you at in Ar?
-
Great little bow for sure. Color scheme is cool too. Only on PA would you see someone take a perfectly good ash handle and make a bow of it. Danny

What is an ambush bow?
-
I have an ash wheelbarrow handle with perfectly straight grain that I have planned on making 2 similar bows from. Maybe one will be a scallop edged bow. Thanks for the great inspiration. Looks beautiful. Everybody, y'all be sure to check out the wheelbarrow handles when you're lookin for bow wood at Lowes.
-
i forgot to ask did you splice two handles together if so how? SS
-
At 57" ntn & only 1 1/16" wide, it amazes me that you got 40 lbs out of it without it breaking or taking extreme set. It certainly inspires the hell out of me.
Is that basically a pyramid taper out of the handle?
-
Very nice.
-
Thanks for all the kind comments.
SS - it is just a wheel barrow handle that I split in half with my band saw and made the bow from one split.
UNT - it is basically a pyramid taper just that there is no handle narrowing.

What is an ambush bow?
I have been wondering the same thing
-
I believe an ambush bow would be one that you can easily manage in cover. Something fairly short and maneuverable.
