Just finished this up for a feller' from Oklahoma. Its a simple eastern woodland d-bow 60" ntn 50#@30" (I'm only drawing 28" in the pic) . Its 1 1/8" wide at the handle and 5/8" wide at the nock shoulders. Diamond fineals and I put a small arrow head at the arrow pass since the guy that ordered it wanted some way of locating his hand. Of all the bows that one can make, these eastern woodland d-bows are by far my favorite. Not just to build but to shoot. Anyway, thank you to my daughter Teresa for taking the pictures and thanks for looking! Josh

Beautiful bow. Excellent tiller. That's one of my favorite styles, also. I just haven't made one in awhile. Heck, I haven't even shot the one I have hanging on the rack in a long time. I must shoot this week.
-
That'll do doc ;) i dont see snow in the pic .....spring must be heading north ;D
-
That is my favorite kind of bow too Gun Doc. That is a fine looking bow - great workmanship as usual. All the way around, that D style bow is just made to hunt.
-
Good looking for sure !!
-
Very nice! Could you tell me roughly what your limb thickness dimensions are? Thanks...I've just got to try one.

Thanks fellas! Steve- I'm planning on making the classic, but I won't be sure if I'll make it until I pull in the drive.
raghorns- I will have to measure it when i get home next weekend. I think this one might be longer than 60" now that I think about it. I believe this one might be "63 . My memory ain't real good.
Tracy- I don't usually do much knapping in the winter. So I'll get back to it when it warms up. I don't have much luck working cold stone.
Thanks again everybody! Josh
-
Nice bow there, Doc! I sure like the bendy handle style.

Just what the Doctor ordered! There is something so very pure and sweet about that design, especially when the tiller is so fine! Atta boy, you done went and done good!
Just beautiful, Josh, just beautiful.

Sweeet bend on that little woodland bow. 8)
-
Diddos on what JW said.Sweeet bend.Does'nt look like there's enough wood there to boil a cup of coffee but there's enough there to kill a deer though. Now which is more important?........LOL.
-
simply eleganze! You did a great tiller job!
I like those simple D-bows also
-
Can anybody explain somethin to me?
There are a buncha nice bows posted on here, all the time.Bows with a lot of chrome and flash, with pretty lams and overlays and such, but the bows that really catch my eye and keep me commin back to look at,are always the bows like this one.
-
Love this bow Doc. That full draw says it all ;)
-
Thanks for the kind words every one! I really do appreciate your opinions on my humble sticks. Or in trucker speak, "I appreciate the flowers!". Just something we say when payed a fine compliment.
Traxx- I certainly cant speak for anyone else, but for me the more utilitarian and plain the bow, the more it stirs that little primal part of my soul that most people never discover within themselves. I can appreciate the effort, talent and attention to detail that the fancy ones require, but it is a completely different part of me that appreciates it. If that makes any sense at all.
Anyway, thanks again, Josh
-
Josh,
That may be it,but i think its just, that im a plain ole kinda guy.LOL
Seems the older i get,the less busy i like things.

Great bow, I love NA bows of all kinds they are my favorite.
Grady
-
Thanks Grady! I'm pretty partial to em myself. Eastern, plains, Western, Eskimo, and everything in between. They're all cool! Josh
-
Very nice! Could you tell me roughly what your limb thickness dimensions are? Thanks...I've just got to try one.
Lyle
I made it home and measured it. It is 61" ntn, width is 1 1/16" for the center 36" and then straight tapers to 5/8" wide tips. The thickness at the handle is 5/8" tapering to 3/8" thick tips. As you probably know, every piece of wood is different so these dimensions are just for reference. In fact, I prefer 1 1/4" wide for the center section, but I had to make do on this one. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your version. Josh
-
That's a mighty nice bow.
How high up is the arrow pass on this beauty?
Hamish.
-
Thanks! The arrow pass is dead center. Josh
-
Thanks! The arrow pass is dead center. Josh
That's a great advantage of bendy handled bows. It certainly simplifies tillering.

That's exactly right! No fades to fight, no trying to figure out arrow pass offset, just a simple, easy to eyeball graceful arc. It don't get no easier than that! Josh
-
very nice bow Doc !! perfect tiller
-
Nice looking bow.

Fantastic bow Doc (as always)! If you don't mind - could you humor me for a question I have? Is that a crack just under your bowyer's mark in the pictures? If so - can you give me a short background on how it came about (drying crack? splinter-lift?), what you did about it and why? I haven't come across it yet in the couple of bow projects I have, but I did have a drying crack form in an axe handle I recently made out of mulberry. It wasn't a huge deal, but axe handles don't bend. :) Anyway, I was able to just scrape it down some more to remove most of the depth from the crack and finish it off. I thought about filling with some super glue mixed with sawdust like I've read on here a few times, but didn't bother.
-
Thanks fellas! Where you been Ken? It seems you been keeping a low profile for quite a while. I kinda been missing the chance to drool over your crepe myrtle shorties! Josh
-
Yep thats a drying crack. The core of this tree was hollow and rotten so it checked from the center while the tree was still growing. There isn't much crack left on this bow. Mostly what your seeing is water stain in the wood as the top of the tree was open to rainfall. If I was worried about it, I would've used the superglue and sawdust. But this one wasn't worth bothering with. As I said, its mostly stain. Josh
-
Cool - thanks!
-
Very graceful looking bow.
Ya gotta love that osage!
Kevin
-
beautiful bow cant beat those simple curves
-
Just about to start an Osage bow of the exact style, definetly my favorite style so simple but effective
-
Thank you for the kind words! I shot this one quite a bit this weekend and some other folks that were shooting glass recurves had to give it a go. I think there might be some converts in the bunch. They just couldn't believe that this skinny little stick was shooting so hard. I think it was quite an eye opener for them. Josh
-
thats sweet josh i like the tips &desings on itdraws back nice . Paul

Ain't it fun to let 'em shoot these "kid's bows" and see 'em go all goggle eyed?!?!
-
Thanks Paul! Yep, JW, it is a hoot to watch em pull that string for first time and realize its not a green willow pole bow. Josh
