Let's say you like "longer" bows. How many of you guys would shoot a short bow if one showed up on your doorstep? I ask because of the trade. I make 'em short but I don't want to send one if it won't be used. Just using this post as some sort of feeler survey.
-
I like short bows and sure wouldn't mind if one of yours showed up at my door. Last year I hunted with a 49.5" sinew backed bow and a longer bow.
-
I prefer short bows, I favor Native American bows.

I love my long flat bows pyramid bows and mollies. But a friend brought over some of his yew shorties and i almost stole it lol. Your recipient will love what ever you make.
-
you'd have to be nut's not to want one of your bows, and I shoot both long and short
-
Jon if you have to send it to me,,,I'll suffer through it :( JeffW

Ill happily shoot whatever makes my doorstep.

I will be in the trade next year as I know several more bows will have been built...boosting up the old confidence level. Part of the excitement concerning the trade (seems to me) will be receiving something different than what I am used to.

Rags makes a great point. When you sign up for this trade the understanding is you get whatcha get, no whinin'!
That reminds me, I gotta get my butt in gear and shoot that Whoopin' Stick that sleek made for me!
-
I did not know that I like short Bows until I shot 1... I believe if you send somebody something that they don't already have you open their door to a whole new realm and at that point you gave them more than a bow ;)

My favorite bows are all between 60" and 64" and thats usually about the length I make mine. I would love to try out one of your shorties Jon. Thats what makes the trade so cool, most guys have a certain style of bow that they build with unique characteristics to each of them. I would be happy and shoot any bow I receive from anybody in the trade. To me its a lot more fun to build a bow for another bowbuilder because they know the time, effort, and patience it takes to build a bow and that makes them appreciate a whole lot more than your average joe. In other words Id be very thankful for anything I get.
-
I don't discriminate, I like them all :)
-
I have a couple of Half Eye bows that are really short & good for tight places. I have no problem with them, though I generally make them a little longer than he does. My idea of a shorty is about 58". I don't trust myself being successful making them much shorter.
-
i really like the short bows, a friend of mine came round today who hasnt done much archery so i showed him the bows i have made, (we may have another member soon lol) and we had abit of target practice in the garden, after a while i asked him to measure my draw length it turned out i was only drawing about 23-24" i thought i drew to 25" so i think a short bow would suit me just fine. i am 5ft 11" and have pretty long arms so i thought i would have a much longer draw. i was suprised at how short i was drawing. must be all the years of shooting slingshots. so if anyone in the bow trade sends me a shortie i will be more than happy ;D

Jon, Anybody dont want it send it to the demented elf (me)

I'll be excited to get any kind of bow that gets made for me. I Haven't made any shorter bows yet and I was thrilled to get a short 5 curve last year.
-
Whenever I hunted from the ground this year, I carried a short bow that halfeye sent me. At the ranges involved in my kind of hunting where the shots are usually 15 yards or closer, those little shorties are plenty of bow to put a deer on the ground. My answer is yes. Your bows would make anyone happy.
-
When first starting out in trad archery I could'nt hit nothing with a long or short one,but I prcticed with a 72"bbelm log bow, bout ten thousand arrows later I was putting them in a pie plate @ 30 yards!I think once I trained my brain to put the arrow where I was looking. It came down more to my level of consentration long or short! But I have always maintaineed the same draw lenght.robotic form and consentration is the name of the game for me ,not lenght!that being said no two bows I have built shot exactually the same, but close!
-
I would so just ship it on out.
-
Love em all... sometimes a handy short shooter is the ticket.... shooting short bows makes me a better shooter. It takes a bit more focus to shoot a short bow as accurate as a long one... send that dude ;)
-
Yes, I like short bows.
-
My bows have always been longer i guess i think it is more a showing of my confidence as Bowyer, as i get more experience, my bows are getting shorter. So yes i would use a short bow :)
-
Uhh, well..... Yeah! Love the shorties! The last several years, I've hunted with bows between 48 and 52 inches long or should I say short?
As for the trade however, any bow length from anyone here is special. ;)
-
Human nature....an individual has preferences and , at least in my case, limitations. If I could
craft a shorty like halfeye (no pun intended) or Matt then that would be all I built/shot. And if
I could build the elegant stick of CodythemasterMisslemaster, well then I would.
WildKatt sent me my first and only osage bow recently and if I could do that with that then
I would.
I also like the simple bows that I build myself. So, like most PA people, my preference in a bow is
the one in my hand.
Just go on and build the damn thing.
-
i am not in the trade, but i shot a 47"sinew backed osage this week.i went over to a buddies house the other day and he just recieved a shortie in a trade.this bow was made by a native american on a reservation.it was a sinew backed osage limb bow painted with red ohcer and hide glue.it looked like a toy until i shot it.talk about suprised, that little bow shot lighting bolts.so yes,i would love to get a shortie if i was in the trade.i am sure everyone on here would love a shortie.
-
Short bows are the best kind.
-
Im an equal opportunity bow lover; short bows need loving too! same with tall ones, and curvy ones, dark ones, yellow ones,... well you get my drift. ;)
-
I shoot anything from 29" to over 76".....and enjoy them all..I love just target shooting longer bows....but when its time to grab a bow to hunt with its anything from 50"-58" because I hunt exclusively from the ground in thicker cover for close range shots.
-
I like them all
-
Like em short or long. I make as many shorties as longies. Can shoot em all equally. I just adjust my anchor point. 28" goes almost to the corner of my mouth, heel of my thumb at the mouth is about 26", finger tips at the bow arm armpit - 24". I think other guys on here use similar methods. I'm assuming that's why so many guys gave their draw lengths as a range (I said 26 to 28 but I can shoot 24 no prob) instead of a specific draw length. 60lbs at 28 just means if I only pull to 24", I'm still shooting at least 45 lbs (cuz 60 would about be my max to pull at any length). I'd be happy with any bow you sent Jon W.
-
I've done one shortie, 48", and took some getting used to, but i could only draw to 24" or so. I loved it once i got used to it, but if i did another, it'd get at least 26" of draw ;)
-
i like bows, period. All kinds of bows.
-
Anything I can hunt with will work. I have never shot anything shorter than 58" ntn, but I'm sure one you get used to it they are cool.
