Title: Booniper ELB
Post by: Jmilbrandt on February 24, 2013, 11:40:32 pm
I haven't made a bow for a while but I've been getting back into it. Here is one I made recently, It's a boo backed juniper 76" ntn 1 1/8" wide at the handle, It pulls 65# at 30" and the overlays are ebony. I found this stave one day while hiking about a year later I hiked in about three miles in 115 degree weather to get it! :P A piece this long and clear is almost impossible to find here. As soon as I had it cut i knew I had to make it an ELB.  ;)

Cool pics.  I was wondering about the set, did it take a lot?  I herd that bamboo would overpower the juniper.  What was your experience?  Is the first pic from the side or is it of the back?  Thanks I have a lot of ERC(Juniper) thats why im asking?

That finish looks so shiny, what was it? Makes my bows look so dull. Very nice :)

Thanks everyone! The finish on it is Tru-oil I usually do about 12 coats with a polish with 1500 grit sand paper in between each application until it looks like that.

Sasquatch, The first pic is bad but its the front. I have done a few boo backed juniper bows and everyone i've made has taken very little set. It is my favorite combo, they are by far my most shot bows. This one started with an inch of reflex and now is dead straight when unstrung. I'm not sure erc would stand up to boo backing though this is one seed juniper and it's quite a bit more dense. Here's a link to another Booniper bow i made.

That's great...I looked at your other bow from 2010 and it's a winner too. Now I've got to get the chain saw out and try some ERC...closest thing I've got. Thanks
