Title: backing?
Post by: kid bow on February 26, 2013, 10:44:21 am
I have a bow I made from wood I have used but don't know the name of it. I need a backing that will keep the severe reflex it has. I tillered it to have the reflex.... But my question is does anyone know of a backing that I can easily find or buy that will keep the reflex and keep the bow from exploding I have heard of jeans being used and all sorts of others but has anyone had and good experience with those kind of backings

Sinew or wood is the only things I know of that will help your bow hold its reflex but you still have to do your part and get good tiller. Netiher cloth(of any kind) or rawhide will help you maintain the reflex.

Have you tillered it to full draw? Have you shot it in? If so, it shouldn't lose much more reflex most likely. And even if it does lose some it should be just fine. I'd only back it if you think the bow needs it for integrity and for that I'd use rawhide.
