Just finished an ELB for a guy, he found the Yew himself about 14months ago and asked if I could make it into a bow, it was a bit skinny, and I said I couldn't garantee there was an ELB in there, but I'd certainly make some sort of bow.
It had a couple of inches of deflex, and wasn't the springiest Yew, but with some heat bending and tempering, it's ended up ramrod straight and a very handsome 55# @ 28".
He had some old gold rings and wanted a gold arrow plate... well it's different!
Full story of the smelt on my blog. Earlier posts have more bow details and pics.

Here's some pics, you can see the central pith peeking through on the belly.
The profile is more rectangular than classic D, a bit more Americal longbow... but I had limited heartwood to playwith, so I maximised it.
I'll prob post the full bow later, but I haven't got a decent full draw pic at the mo'... anyhow, I'm sure you can guess what my full draw tiller looks like by now ;)

Love the arrow plate Del. Nocks are very sexy.

That is the first time I have seen a gold strike plate. Beautiful job! The lighter almost see through nocks are beautiful.

I was thinking of maybe naming it 'Burning Gold' in which case he'd need 'arrows of desire' to go with it.
As in the song Jerusalem.
Bring me my bow of burning gold,
bring me my arrows of desire,
bring me my spear,
oh clouds unfold,
bring me my chariot of fire etc...

I'm more interested in the nocks than the strike plate....

That bow is very striking, especially with the finish details on the strike plate, tips and handle wrap. Real nice Del.
-
Thats a classy bow! I love it.
-
The strike plate is cool, but ditto on the nocks. That transparency is killer. Good job, Mr. Cat!!
-
The strike plate is a classy touch, but then again, the entire bow is quite classy! Josh
-
Cheers guys, thanks for the comments,
you've quite made me blush :D

Very nice indeed Del. We have come to expect excellence from your work and you never fail to deliver. thanks for sharing. Danny

Great bow again, Del.
Your nocks are top of the line! And the color of the horn is beautiful.
-
Now, I just think the strike plate is gilding the lily. Your bows are the "gold standard" as it is, no need to dress them up at all! None the less, amazing work with the inlay!
-
Wow, that is a beautiful longbow. Top notch work Dell.

Cheers,
Yeah, I wouldn't have done it for myself, but the guy wanted it, he provided the gold and he's from Essex (Dunno what the US equivalent would be? Essex boys and Essex girls are s'posed to be a bit flash and like their bling).
Anyhow... you boys love to cover everything with snakeskin :o ;)
