I been working on a large possibles/small game bag and I wanted some input on what I should put in to protect the bottom. I was thinking rawhide but I also have some etc I can put in there. This will be a item that will go for trade.
-
I'm thinking waxed canvas.
Is it a design where you can turn it inside out to rinse off critter juices?
-
Yep it sure does
-
I have seen some possible bags the had a pillow ticking liner, looked pretty sharp.

maybe this will help
-
I was thinking of just lining the bottom instead of the whole inside.
-
I have some familiarity with the bag in that link. Drop me a p.m. with questions.
-
Thanks JW ill let ya know if I have any questions.
-
Hmm, how about not sewing the liner in the bag anbd using a few buttons to attach?
Another idea, and this one is more historically correct, is to make an oversized bag with the flap coming over from the front and covering the backside. Then the front of the bag has netting sewn on to create a "double bag". This allows the small game the opportunity to cool more quickly than if it was stuffed into a closed bag.
-
Hmmm.. interesting ill have to try that on my next bag. I rather enjoy making them.
-
Me too! Post some pics of your work, man! I'm always up for stealing good ideas, I mean, learning new ways!
-
I have made a handful of bags. I never lined them at all. What is the lining going to be for?
-
I figured id line the bottom to give it some protection against anything that may be sharp or something. Like maybe if ya wanted to use it to go gather some napping material or something. After all a bag has a million uses.
-
Remember, the only difference between the possibles bag and a man purse is the size and lethality of the weapons carried along with it.
-
Very true JW LOL. The bag is currently the largest I have made and if I remember correctly is 14 in. X 12 in. I'm actually rather pleased with it and I should have pics of it tomorrow as well as putting it up for trade.
-
A bit of advice..... Don't make it too nice or the little lady will take it over and use it as a purse. Lost my Fowlers bad to that 3 years ago and it's still her everyday purse.
-
Almost done just gotta put an antler button and leather thongs for a closure. Been thinking about putting a racoon tail I have on there somewhere too. But I don't know where and not sure if I really want to. Wish I had some leather stamps so I could put some design in the red oval but oh well.
-
That looks great!
-
Thanks I'm pretty happy with it as well. I haven't been able to work on it that much but at least now I have a little time to finish it.
