here comes the last one of the row, made from an extraordinary stave with a s-shape in front profile naturally grown.
The s- shape fits perfect as handle, arrow pass is in the upper curve and nearly centered.
The upper limb was a sabre, is heat corrected.
Nice brown cloud in handle area comes from a rotten zone nearby.
Cross section is a flattish D.
Tips are buffalo, arrow pass is stone powder + glue inlay.
String is 6 strands of 452x
64½" ntn
52#/28"

That will make anybody look twice. Very cool.

All 3 are some nice bows! Excellent work. Going to have to keep my eye out for some elderberry. Thanks for the drying tips.
-
That is one graceful bow!

sweet looking bow Simon.

Awesome bow again Simson, it looks like elderberry makes a nice bow, i'd like to try some one day!
-
Another beauty Simon. Please come to America and bring your bows so we can all admire them in person. ;)
-
saved the best for last didn't ya, nice work, Bub
-
Yeah buddy! that's a sweet looking schtick :) Is it red or blue elderberry?
-
That bow is a belter!
Excellent :)
-
Stunner just like the others, very nice all round. Must try elder when I find a bit thats isnt horribly twisted.
-
Yes it was worth the wait. This is the sort of bow I expect from Elder, I have since cut some but I think they will have to be shorter. In your opinion, can I get a short bow out of Elder? And how short do you think maintaining a good draw length, say 26 inch?

My plan is to visit US in 2014 or 2015 (depends on the finances). But when I come then with one or two hunting bows! Would be nice if I could meet some of you guys.

This is sambucus nigra or Black Elderberry. I like this stuff. Here in Germany Red Elderberry is also common, but I have never found a suitable stave - so no idea whether good bow wood or not.Yes it was worth the wait. If you could find a larger stave to make wider limbs perhaps down to 56, otherwise I would go for 60. On the next elders I will try heavy heattreating.
Thank you all for your interest
I'm looking forward to see elders from you guys!
-
Such a sweet tiller on that one. It is just pleasing to the eye.
-
Worth the wait indeed! If she needs a home, just let me know ;) ::)
-
I like that bow! That handle is pretty special.
-
Black Elderberry from Deutch-land? Nice! Yeah I've been searching out the red but it's all got nodes even when it's huge and they're right mid limb. Haven't had the guts to try 'er out, but after seeing this I might just go ahead and do 'er. Thanks Simson

That's one graceful bow. Those nick tips are a nice contrast with the light color of the wood.

Very, very nice bow, just on the point. Nothing more than just what it needs to be perfectly cool...
