I noticed that you don't see too many character bows made out of oak on here.... Here's one I finished up last week. 64" tip to tip. I cut an arrow rest in which removed a big knot from that location on the stave. I usually don't cut one in that deep. This bow has four inches of stiff handle and is roughly a pyramid profile except for the big hole area in the bottom limb. Heat treated and tips bent with dry heat. Handle is jute cordage. It pulls 48# at 27" and really shoots sweet. I will post the full draw later when my photographer gets home from work.

Looks nice! Can't wait to see the full draw.

Looks good. So many different woods, and so little time.
-
Looks nice Howard, that white oak makes a good bow and I like the layout/design of that one. Don't forget those full draw shots later.
-
Thanks guys. Greg, I will bring this one to the classic so you can shoot it. Sorry for the poor pics. Stuck working on a saturday and I posted these from my phone.

Nice! Inspires me to work more on the fire killed white oak stave I cut last November. How wide is it and how much crown does it have?
-
Thanks guys.
Greg, you are absolutely right, I am going to get a decent camera soon. I apologize for the poor quality pics. :(
White oak is very versatile wood and seems to do well in any design that I have attempted so far.
Sleek, this bow is about 1 3/4" wide at the fades and was made from a quarter split of a 7" diameter tree. It did have a slight crown to it, which isn't a bad thing. If I am working a flatter backed stave of white oak, I would go ahead and trap it. It is very tension strong wood.
-
Howard, any pics you post of your bows are great, just saying the quality of the pics aren't up to the fine quality of your bows. When
we meet up at the classic I'll get some pics taken of your bows on my camera to show them off a little better.

Thanks brother! I am looking forward to the classic. :)
