OOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo. Maybe the next one ,I could put an Eagle on one end and a Boar on the other ,and call the bow "Conflict"  ! ;)

It would definitely be a conversation piece.

Just kidding about the Hawkeyes, they are a great team and excellent school.  Our head football coach is a former Hawkeye.

I put a coat of varnish over the paint to give it a little patina. Blue leather handle wrap and a few arrows .I'm thinking yellow cresting (like the eagle heads ) with blue and white fletch. The last pic is of a Greek Drachma (phased out by the Euro).I thought I would use that as the arrow strike. It's 13/16" in dia. What do you think?(http://)

Absolutely stunning!!  Can't wait to see the final result.

Regarding the Drachma - perhaps you could insert it into the wood and lacquer the surface flush and smooth.  I don't know if the uneven surface of the metal would affect the arrow as it passes/rubs off it?

Good point . I was thinking of recessing it slightly below surface and putting a thin  epoxy coating over. It self levels and comes out like glass.

That's pretty much what I had in mind :)

Don't see why it shouldn't work!  If you use a two-part epoxy, you could use more hardener so when it dries, it'll act almost like hard varnish.

I think I'll do that. I hate the way that stuff smells though!

Well, I inlayed the coin for the arrow pass......................................Underwhelmed . I should have left the coin with nothing on top. The epoxy ,I feel, will scratch too easily ,obscuring the view of the coin. I think it kind of makes it a little "cheap" looking. I'm going to try again but let the coin stay a little proud.  Tomorrow night the fun begins (taking the old one out.) Wish me luck.

Heat the coin with a small jet lighter, or soldering gun. The heat will easily transfer through the coin and the glue will loosen when it has reached the right temperature.

Carved + inked  the leather strike plate  around the coin. Added another coat of Spar. Clean up the rough edges  maybe another coat and the leather handle wrap, some arrows and a nice new string, and she's good to go.It definitely looks better without anything on top of the coin. It's just below the surface of the surrounding leather. (http://)

Haha ,thanks Cody! Looks like we were thinking the same thing at the same time. Did we see something to inspire us a few months ago .I thought it just popped into my head .What was your inspiration? I saw the coins at the Antique store about a year ago, and was impressed by the artwork on them . I bought a bunch for my son's coin collection . Most were from the countries that make up the EU so the coins are not legal tender anymore. This bow is for a friend ,who's very proud of his Greek heritage  and also belongs to a motorcycle club that does charity for the Greek Orthodox Church and Heritage center. He's been waiting since last fall ,but I didn't really get the inspiration for it until I saw the crest for the club. It all fell into place about a month or two ago.

Two of the three arrows to go with the bow. One snapped as I was trying to straighten it after it was crested. So I have to remake it. Use your imagination for now and pretend there's three ;)(http://)

Man that is AWESOME!  I been wanting to carve a wood spirit into the fade on one of my bows.  I practiced on a couple of sticks and I think I could do it. I just been using a pocket knife. If I had the right tools for the job I might get the cahonies to try it someday.

I tell you, you have done a fine job.

Wow , you really dug this one up from the archives :D. Thanks for the compliment.  If you like that one , you'll probably like the trade bow  I'm finishing up. Should have some more pics in a week or so.
